I can workout ideas so much faster then I can convey them to other people, and trying to convey ideas to other people slows things down so much, that I can lose track of what I am thinking and get frustrated trying. I sometime can't find the words to describe what I am talking about, and wonder if the words I am using have the same meaning to the other person I am talking to, as they to do for me.
Yep, I totally get that, as I've done it myself. Too often, too, I just keep repeating, and repeating, hoping I'll eventually make sense!

Oh, often when I get over tired (3 or more days without sleep - insomnia's a bastard), if I can't think of the right word to use and I'm in casual company, I'll either make my own word up or just use the first easiest word that comes to mind.
My ex (and only) partner and daughter used to laugh at me all the time whenever I got that tired!
Yeah, I do THIS one, TOO!! I don't even have to be tired! I've used "plane place", more-than-once, for "airport", just cuz I can't think of the word. My mother used to always tell me to stop acting so stupid----but, I was like: "Why am I stupid just cuz I can't think of a word?" I KNOW the word, I just can't think of it, fast-enough!

I once called the toaster "the bread burner". Then I realised that's exactly what it is. So thereafter that's how I referred to it. I'm an expert at substituting words if I know I won't be able to say them.

Oh, yeah----ME, TOO (an expert at substituting words)! ! I used to know a woman who's job was Electrolysis, and I used to ask her: "How's your hair-pullin' job, goin'?" She didn't like that. LOL

I DON'T have an eidetic memory, though, in the sense that I can remember what date something happened; but, I have an EXTREME visual memory to where I can actually see, in my mind's eye, the room where a conversation took place, for instance, and see what everybody was wearing, where they were standing / sitting, etc. I think that's pretty cool!! (I understand it's not uncommon to ASDers, though.)
Perhaps I used the wrong word. I'm the same as you described it. I get a snapshot(s) in my mind and suddenly, all the details come flooding back. Even the silly, minute ones like for example, what was playing on the radio, etc.
This used to drive my ex-partner nuts because whenever I would recount an event, I would have to even tell all the useless stuff as well. Kinda makes it hard to argue with though! She hated it!
