All murders plead insanity. But only the ones who are caught.

I think I am AS, I had the typical childhood, children can be improved by hitting them in the head.

I just wanted to read, which was used against me. At thirteen I was very bad, I hit back. It was no longer safe to come up behind me and slap me in the back of the head. I had no respect for authority.

I was then punished by being excluded. It suits me just fine. Some had not heard of my change in status, thought hitting me would be cool, I thought it was cool, when I beat them with a pool cue.

By fifteen no one hit me anymore, and I went back to reading. They did continue with verbal assults, I can play that too. Well Doctor, I do not identify with being a punching bag, but sparing partner suits me just fine.

As for the heavy hitters at my school, Principal, Coaches, they like terrorising boys in school, where they are little gods, but when I later met them on the street, they pissed their pants and ran. They had to go watch a bunch of boys take showers.

It was all good training. When some stranger walks up and punches me in the mouth, I bleed, but I do not cry or run, I don't even get mad, I just beat the s**t out of them.

I do not think that is AS. That's just me.

Any small problem can be made much worse by having humans around. Maybe a half dozen times in sixty years it was the only answer, and it worked.

The people I wailed on all had long histories of getting away with it, one round with me cured them. I should be paid for providing a public service. This kid will meet someone like me, and it will change his life.

At fifteen I bought a motorcycle, and my first Harris Tweed, white shirt, clip on tie, and raised hell as the assistant manager of a toy store, till I started my life of crime in IT in 1963.

Now I publish books, fine art prints, and market on the web. I have written one major work in eight volumes, until WP I thought I was the only one. Now I see most of my better traits in many others.

There has been change, my tweeds are now single cottage, where the sheep are sheared, woven into tweed, cut, sewn, and the naturals oils left in. I have taken a liking to WPeers. Never felt that way about anyone before.

they act like dogs,
treat them like dogs,
they act like well behaved dogs."

Krex, I think you are on to something there. Here, if he wasn't dx'ed with FAS, it would be Conduct Disorder and he would be in a class for severe behavioral disorders.

However, the general pricnciple of labeling children "anti-social" is disturbing.

Yeah i'm sure that he was dx'ed with the wrong thing

Sometimes it takes a while to descipher inventor's posts, but I assure you that they are usually worth the effort. The only danger is that you might take up his style.

Totally off topic(sort of)I would like to read a book with "Inventor" as the main character...that would be worth reading, very intrigueing use of words.

The boys lack of respect of athority makes sense...I dont have any respect for his parents either.I think most of As lack of authority is based on logic.(I still dont think the kid has AS)

I don't think so either. It would be a nice excuse for the parents to hide behind and the kid to broadcast, but it doesn't do things like that. If he is AS, he is probably something else as well.
Of course, the parents aren't helping. Even if it causes meltdowns, you've got to enforce some rules. No smoking and no drinking would probably be good starting ones. He would learn eventually.

Yes that kid reminds me of some of my old school bullies. If they were going to label him with some behavioural trait IMHO he would far more likely fit the profile of some kid with severe ODD or conduct disorder with a bit of ADHD and bi-polar disorder thrown in as well.

You know I used to think the same way and took child developmental psychology in college which purported all these theories about parenting. Studying anthopology made me realize that some cultures raise their kids in the most brutal ways and they turn into responsible adults in those cultures. Genetics has proven that 50% of all behavior is inherited either directly genetic or indirectly genetic. Look at identical twin studies, particularly those raised apart. But after I read the "Nurture Assumption," I had a forehead smacking moment and realized that children behave a lot more like their peers than their parents. They even learn language from their peers. We have a great potential to leave emotional scars, but very little influence on behavior except for our genes.

The kid is acting like an obnoxious teenager because he is hanging out with them. He needs intensive intervention but I would be much surprised if he doesn't end up in prison.

First off, nice avatar! Good points! All of your points have been good. STILL, his parents should keep him AWAY from this garbage, and shouldn't have exposed him to those teenagers.

The peer argument holds little weight with me, as it has affected me REMARKABLY little! I have been bullied, my parents, and "peers" SMOKED! When I was a kid it was considered "cool" to smoke. I went to a BOARDING school and one of the juniors was FILTHY rich, FAMOUS, and smoked and dealt MARIJUANA! The school KNEW IT! The seniors RAN the social, schedules, and other parts of the school. That is TYPICAL for military schools. The film "TAPS" wasn't far off from my school. Anyway, the seniors LOVED this famous junior I spoke of, and facilitated his parties! I even attended a party with my father, and THEY smoked marijuana. I couldn't believe it! People cussed ALL OVER!

So what did I do? I NEVER smoked! I HID my mothers cigarettes until she finally gave up and QUIT! My father left, so I didn't have to deal with that. I NEVER smoked marijuana, and left when it was smoked. I never bullied anyone. I never even uttered a cuss word until in my mid 30s and then only rarely. Only like 4-5 times in public. MOST utter that many in a matter of MINUTES! I was still VERY nice until in my mid 30s, and am STILL pretty nice. My work ethic was ASTOUNDING until my mid 30s. I have known VERY few that had such a work ethic. I could say even MORE!

WHY am I so different? I have NO idea. I'm a chocoholic. My will power in some things isn't that great. When I found out about AS, I figured ******THAT'S IT******! Yet some of you guys seem to indicate that isn't it(though some DO). WHO KNOWS?

Still, at least with AS, I don't think peer pressure plays that big a part.

Steve

There were a lot of smokers in my house in the 1960's and it was just seen a part of growing up and was considered to be as "healthy as alpine air" hence the slogan "fresh is the flavor of Alpine" being the slogan of Alpine cigarettes. But it flopped with my part of growing up; smoking just made me feel sick. Even those Alpines made me puke. So I could never get addicted to them no matter how hard I tried

No, with AS peer influence is negligible and that's really the crux of our social problems. Read "The Nurture Assumption" by Judith Harris and it will blow your mind. Kids pay more attention to their peers even if they chimpanzees than they do their mothers! People will identify with groups even if they are randomly placed in them. They're basically genetically programmed sheep. It will make you proud to be an Aspie.

As for the miscreant who is the topic of this conversation, I am firmly convinced he does not have AS. He ingratiated himself into a group of teenagers when he was 10 years old. He's the Artful Dodger, not the aspie, Oliver Twist. What type of diagnosis did they do? It takes a multi-discplinary team to diagnose PDD in a young child. There are real neurological soft signs. You can't attribute screaming tantrums to AS without evidence of other symptoms. That could be as easily ADHD. What did the speech pathologist say? How about the neurologist? What does his IQ distribution look like? I don't buy it.

Yes, the child need limits, but he would probably slit his mother's throat before he complies. His peer group is her peer group and she does have the responsibility to see to it that he has a more appropriate one. That is the point no family therapist gets. She does have great power to change his life for the better, but she doesn't see it.

I'm glad you like my posts. My ava is myself at 3 and as you can see I was a serious girl.

He doesn't have AS, he has soemthing else. Aspies do not steal or go out and damage property and do drugs and threaten people in a harmful way. If they did, then they have something else. Could he have conduct disorder or any form of it.

Actually, I have read in several places that aspies can get involved in such things, in particular, stealing, as they do not realise how wrong it is and lack the understanding to see how the person stolen from would feel. My ex is an aspie, diagnosed and he stole things a fair amount with no qualms at all. Naturally, I objected to it, but he just didn't seem to view it as wrong. If someone left their pen or pencilcase at college, it was their fault for leaving it, etc etc.
