What to do when people laugh about, dismiss your diagnosis
When I tell people I probably have autism (never officially diagnosed.) Their knee jerk reaction is to tell me there is nothing wrong with me. Later though they often tell me they can see it.
I think it is because of the societal stigma on ASD. Every time you turn around we are hearing how awful it is, or worse about some person who might have had Asperger's wigging out and hurting someone. No one wants to think a friend or loved one has a disorder that awful. Autism speaks doesn't exactly help us there.
I follow a page on Facebook called thaucast that is run by an autistic man. And have been thinking about starting a YouTube channel because what the world really needs is real, non demonizing, autism education.
