I've had moments of feeling profoundly connected to others, when it seemed we saw life much the same, with similar values and hopes and joys... And sometimes, I know that this is true. However, too often I'm with people who don't seem to get me at all, with different values, different wants, and ways of thinking that seem bizarre (though they're usually fairly common). When I'm alone, I don't know how to find new friends, despite having gathered related skills. It's application that's so hard. And when I make new friends, they all too often disappear before too long. Though I do have friends that I've known for years...
What's hard for me is knowing where I really am in all of this - and where my friends or others are. Do they really want me around? Are they tired of how I'm different? Are they busy with their lives, or simply, slowly fading away...? The fact is, often I can't tell just how alone I am, in the larger sense. I just now that now, I want someone to hang out with. I've always wanted that - though I can be extremely picky about who that is.
So I feel alone and sad, and practice feeling without thought, 'cause I'm tired of all the mental stories, 50 years of painful stories, and I think perhaps uncertainty is better than depression. I'll just be as I am, and hope that some folk like that guy, and want him around, 'cause that's what I want. And I refuse to give that up. I'd rather be rejected and alone than less than who I am. Curious thing - I actually like me.
