Around 25, 4 years ago. I saw a picture of the Crab nebula, learned it was a real cosmic object, and that began my adventure and subsequent study of supernovae.

Space is pretty rad. It was actually my first special interest starting when I was 4 years old. Fortunately, my mom had no problem reading me factual astronomy books with lots of really nice NASA photos and such. :)

I loved looking at all the planets like Jupiter and Saturn. When I would walk around, I would imagine my surroundings as outer space and could see planets and moons everywhere.

It's always remained a secondary special interest along with time travel and string theory. Now it's even better because they are finding so many new and strange world's with the Kepler telescope analysis.

Some scientists believe that there is a vortex in spacetime in the center of the Crab Nebula that is spitting out particles faster than light. But that is all speculation. 8)
