Your house is a part of you

If it's a whole street or village of brightly colored houses, like I'm guessing that pic is maybe Rio, or maybe somewhere in Spain or Italy, then obviously none will be subject to gawking, as the normal will be to be striking.

But when that isn't what the neighborhood, why does a house have to be different? Why does anyone have to get any "balls rolling"? I don't get why there's this pressure for something stunning or unusual?

And -- I'm artistic. I am an artist but I don't feel the need to have a house that's crazy as sh*t. I don't want bright colors or crazy shapes. I just want a house. I want comfort and peace, not "whooo look how special my house is!!"

There's nothing inherently wrong with "boring" and "conventional." All I ask of the outsides of houses and buildings is that they aren't scruffy and decrepit. I don't care if they're not orange or Lord of the Rings or crazy.

I don't know why someone who likes that s**t "has good taste" and someone who just wants a decent looking house is "conventional." Sorry but I think "good taste" is just wanting a decent house in good repair, not something out of a Dali painting.

I like pastel colors myself.

I like Victorian-type houses much more than ranch houses (a ranch house is a one-story house).

But if I happen to have a ranch house, then that's okay with me.

The house in the pix makes me think there is something wrong with my glasses, or my eyes, or both.

If I came into enough money to build a house I'd want a step in tub--the kind with a door in it that opens out. Most of these handicapped tubs have a door opening in, but then you have to struggle to get around the edge of the door to sit on the built in seat. I can only take showers now, but have to use a tub with a high side, as that's all my home has. Relatives added a wooden step on the outside, to make it a little easier for me to get in, and I bought a tub chair, so that I can sit down for part of the time while washing up, but I wish I could take a tub bath again. Haven't had one in many years, as it's too hard for me to get down and get up now.

I'd also like the fantasy home to have no steps. It could have a ramp, outside to get in if necessary, but no more steps. I would want everthing on one floor, or room for an indoor ramp to the second floor, with at least one landing partway up, so I could rest along the way.

I'd also like all the overhead cupboards to be lower down than they normally are, as I can't reach things on higher levels, and the spacing between steps or rungs on step stools and step ladders is too far apart for my short legs and bad knees, so I can't use those anymore.

Basically, I need a place for a short person with health issues, and I frequently look up such homes or features on the internet. Unfortunately, I am unlikely to ever have the money to get such a house.

I prefer living in an average, boring, cookie-cutter apartment complex. Gives me a (probably false) sense that I blend in, and I'm just like everyone else.
