It is unfortunately a struggle for me. I'm a person diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome and sometimes I get the feeling that employers can't hire me because they may not understand how autism works. On most job applications online, you can sign electronically stating you have a disability (autism is on the list) and the employer may not hire me after looking at it is often what I think.

In past interviews I've been to, when an employer asks me anything they should know about me, I state to them that I have Aspergers. I have gotten subtle stares of doubt and may be a cause for passing me over despite having experience in the field. It is just annoying to me.

The only service I know of is vesid or access VR that helps with disabled people to find jobs but I don't know to say they have that everywhere. Many places aren't otherwise that willing to give autistic people a chance when it comes to working. The thing is that on the application you HAVE to specify whether or not you have a disability and if you don't and they find out then you can be fired as well as they throw out your application. Its basically like low key discrimination without being ACTUAL discrimination ...

How can they find out if you don’t give them access to your medical records?

One could easily omit the info and just pretend you’re not aware of your diagnosis.

Finding a job that I liked was difficult.

I did office work, but felt like a drone and it was depressing - I think that was due to having to proofread obituaries though.

This is really funny!
