Maybe, for fun, I should randomly throw out comments about only buying underwear from Kmart. "Aha! I knew it! She's autistic!"

LMAO. Too funny! : )

Back when I didn't know a thing about autism my 5 yo had this huge obsession with K-mart. (We never even shop there.) I remember thinking, if he starts asking to buy his underwear there I'm going to have him evaluated! lol Come to find out, he does in fact have PDD-NOS. It's sad that we base our knowledge on movies like that. I'm ashamed to admit that the K-mart thing was one of my tip-offs.

I think I've just been so relieved that something pathological actually describes and explains many of the misunderstanding situations I've been in that it doesn't matter to me that people notice. Having people have actually notice my condition, and that my adaption to NT mannerisms is largely camoflage reinforced by long-standing habit, doesn't really bother me any more. It used to, when I was younger. That's probably a large part of why I remember my childhood as a long string of embarrassments. Maybe I've chilled out a bit with age.

I'm normally able to blend in with the NT crowd but I was recently out of work and
under a bit of stress and during an interview my prospective employer suddenly
paused and said 'There's just something about you but I can't put my finger on it'.
I thought about explaining my self diagnosed AS but decided it might only confuse things. In the end it didn't affect my prospects as I was called back for a 2nd interview.

Kinda happened to me once, and I ended up going out with the girl a couple of times. I live in a small place, kind of town where you know everyone, and the few people that you don't know, well someone you know knows them. I would grab lunch every Tuesday at the same place, eat the same thing, sit at the same table. The girl that worked there kinda noticed a pattern and one day as I was leaving she asked if she could speak to me. She said she was doing a report on the United States for school so she wanted to know if I could help her with some things. She took my number and set up a time to meet. When I got to her place she admitted she made the whole thing up but she wanted to talk to me where we wouldn't be bothered and she noticed all my patterns and how her friends that knew me described me to her, and she was the same but never had seen anyone about it.
