Everyone dreams, every night, it's just a matter of remembering the dream. I haven't remembered many of my dreams though, some of my early ones I did remember but theyr so unbelievably strange that I'm embarrassed to mention them... And a few other dreams I remembered (I wouldn't call them nightmares, but bad things often happened in these dreams) that have come true.

I usually go for a period of about 2 weeks where I remember my dreams (at least partially) and then about 2 weeks where I don't. I used to have recurring dreams a lot more often when I was younger, and I remember many of these. It's kind of like another life, and often they are quite interesting and adventurous, at other times disturbing.

Once I got older the recurrent parts of dreams were usually themes rather than the dream itself being the same, usually when I was under stress (themes have included: tsunamis, whales, never-getting-to-class on the first day of school, endless packing, and when I was much younger, creepy doppleganger dogs). Occasionally I'll have a dream that predicts the future (usually the next day), those are interesting. But most of my dreams are not recurrent, I haven't had one of the themed dreams for a couple months, that I can remember.

I recently decided to start keeping a dream blog, since I find that I remember my dreams more when I write down what I can remember. It's a lot easier to do online than the ones I've recorded on bits of paper over the years, or that are just fused in my memory.

Why is that?

Actually, I remember relatively few dreams, and once wondered if I still did. It turns out some is due to nutritional deficiencies, etc.... For a while there I took some things such as 5-HTP and Acetyl-l-carnitine, and I started dreaming again fairly vividly. Also, my examining my day and trying to figure out how things may have changed get a life of their own, and can be fairly dreamlike.

I DO remember, even somewhat into my adult life, having a lot of the unusual things you speak of, like hyperactive minds, always thinking of something, etc... As a kid, I wondered if a pretty quiet mind was even possible. Then again, who knows. I COULD go the whole day without thinking in a visual or audible way, and still doing a lot of worthwhile things. Who is to say?
