i flipflop alot about religion. im back to being an athiest again, religion is the worst thing to happen to humans ever, its absolutley terrible

i was born and raised Seventh-day Adventist. we believe a bit differently from other Christian denominations. if you want, you can read about our 28 fundamental beliefs here http://www.adventist.org/beliefs/fundamental/index.html

if you'r having trouble because of the whole "Hell" thing.. well.. we believe Hell is an event, not a place, and that eternal life is a gift one only has to accept, not something earned through works. (good works are the RESULT of being saved!! if you have a relationship with God (a true one), you will want to do good things. but we don't believe in "once saved, always saved." Your relationship with God is a constant journey. you can turn around and go back the way you came at any point along the path. just because you started the journey does not guarentee you will reach the end of the road.. only that you stepped onto the road. but, the good news is, if you find you're going back the way you came, you can always turn around again!!) we also don't believe in the eternal soul or going to heaven (or hell) right after dying. "why?" you might ask. because it's not in the Bible. that's right.. the Bible never once mentions an eternal soul. in fact, the definition of soul in the bible is a living being. (body + breath of life = living soul) think of it this way: when you add electricity (breath of life) to a light bulb (body), you get light (living being). when you take the electricity (life) away from the bulb (body), there is no more light (living being/soul). all that's left is the bulb (corpse). the breath of life goes back to God, but it's not a "soul." the breath of life is basically God's power, without which life cannot exist. it isn't until the second coming (which will happen once God has gone through the books and judged everybody so that the other, still perfect, created beings on other worlds will know that he is fair. note: the judging started in 1844, when Jesus went into the most holy place in the heavenly temple.), when the righteous are resserrected, that we go to heaven. and it isn't until after the thousand years in heaven (during which time, we are going through the books and judging the wicked, so that we know God is fair), when we return in the city and the wicked are ressurrected (so that their lives flash before their eyes and they judge themselves and admit that God is fair and bow down to him. but.. then Satan's gonna rally them again and they're gonna try to storm the city..), that the "hell" even happens. this event is when the wicked try to storm the city and fire comes down from heaven to burn them up, as well as the whole world. note: Hell is not eternal. only the RESULTS are eternal. how do i know this is what is meant when the Bible talks about eternal fire?? because the same term was used about Sadam and Gamora burning with eternal fire, and they obviously aren't still burning. Hell is also called Armageddon. yes.. it's the same thing. *gasp* so, after the fire comes down and burns the wicked up, ALONG WITH SATAN AND HIS DEMONS!! (that's right.. Satan will die, too!! not live forever, happy as a lark, torturing the wicked for all eternity. after all, he's a created being, too..), then the world will burn until it is a void, just like in the beginning. then, the righteous get to watch the world be created all over again!! (minus adam and eve.. as in, God's not gonna create a new Adam and Eve...) and then the city will settle, and we will go out on the new earth and live with God there and Earth will become the new heaven!! yes... seriously. heaven will no longer be in the center of Orion's belt. because God will live here with us.. and Heaven is where God lives... so.. yeah.

that is what i believe.

I don't want to cause any friction here, but from the above post, I see another view of Christianity. I have trouble grasping that, out of essentially one book, so many people have perceived it to preach its words in so many different contexts.

Give me Necessitas (Roman destiny goddess), Thor (Norse thunder god, battler of giants), Anubis (Egyptian god of the Dead), and Cliodhna (Banshee) anytime.

if was going to join a denomination, i'd probably join this one atleast they take the bible literaly. i never knew saturday is really the sabbath. its not sunday people, some catholic changed it to sunday

I will admit that I knew nothing of Seventh-day Adventists, nothing at all, and I commend you for explaining it to me (and everyone else, I suppose) and for staying with it for so long. I will also admit that the old me would have been one of the first to mock you , although I have since chosen to follow my own path, one that is tolerant of others and their choices. I guess if you do not have a problem with race, then it is a little hypocritical to have a problem with religion, because the two have reflected off of each other since human history began.

Having said that, I still stand by the statement I made in my first post, because we have come a long way as a species to get to the point where we can think for ourselves, and be capable of making our own decisions.

Actually, looking at what I just wrote, I was so wrong, we have not come a long way as a species. Over the course of millions of years, maybe, but in the last two thousand years, all we can come up with is more technology?

I'm christian and subscribe to two unorthodox beliefs to some 1. The bible was corrupted when man politicised it I.E the apocrypha as an example if it was in the teaching why get rid of them. And 2. Religion and Science are 2 sides of the same coin. Religion the Why Science the how. I tend to find a good point between my rational and faithful side in those beliefs.

I don't understand religion.

Hey Diamonddavej , I love that guy in your post, I've watched many of his vids. I also enjoy Richard Dawkins. I am an ardent atheist. I don't believe in fairy tales.
