Hmm..i never have that problem. now if you subtract from the tip and get the same bartender the next time you go in, that may explain why they don't come to you right away...or they may have spread the word that you are a cheap tipper.

If he's being excluded and bartenders are not serving him then he's subtracting 50 cents per 10 minutes he has to wait even though there are only 3 other customers...

That doesn't make him a cheap tipper. Sounds like the bartender has a preference issue.

re-read my comment...i said "THE NEXT TIME YOU GO IN". meaning, if he reduced his tip (no matter what the reason), when he goes in the next time, the bartender will remember that. ya dig?

I think eye contact is a big part of it. NT equate eye contact with a desire to interact. Lack of eye contact is interpreted as "no desire to interact". For NT bartenders (and for waiters/waitresses in restaurants), eye contact is probably the number one signal that they look for as a sign that a customer wants to order something.

When I am in a bar or a restaurant, I rarely use words to get the bartender/waitress' attention. I simply make eye contact with an expectant look on my face and I keep doing it until he or she gets the message. Usually, it doesn't take long. I don't think that bartenders and wait staff do this consciously -- it's usually a completely automatic process that they (and I) don't think about.

That having been said, I don't think it is absolutely necessary to make eye contact to get their attention. I think it would be fine to just look in their general direction, raise one finger, and say "Hey, I'd like to order something" -- or just "excuse me".

I just get carded alot for a 32 year old....there is something about my mannerisms that raises red flags. I can be sitting next to a 21 year old and they won't get carded, but I will.

I got carded when i went to a bar with my parents recently, even though since I am their daughter, I would have been able to get served anyway.

I hate it! I am always furrowing my brow or putting on a haggard face in an atempt to look older....even though I am sure I look over 21 by now!
