I would hate to be deprived of all opportunity to read.

I could not live without reading. I read popular science and science textbooks. I also teach myself maths and computer programming. I couldn't live withotu opening a book at least twice a day or reading the New Scientist.

I could probably survive without books for a while, but I'm always reading...even if it's just a post on a forum or a stupid Wikipedia article (or even the ingredients on the side of a cereal box)...I find the more time I spend reading pointless things on the Internet, the less time I have to read books :x

I can beat you there...programming dreams :x The worst part is that there's always bugs, and I can't quite find them...so I spend the rest of the night checking through pages and pages of code, trying to track the sucker down, only to have another one pop up.

If I lost the ability to read because of a stroke or something, I would invest in audio books. Also, I would get one of those devices which reads text on your computer aloud to you.

I once tried to remember the last time I read. I COULDN'T REMEMBER!! !! !! ! THEN I realized I read ALL THE TIME! Internet! My job! Manuals!! !! ETC....! !! !! I actually read SO much, that I didn't think about it as any action. I just DO!

So NO, I couldn't live without reading. In fact, I'm trying to transition to also reading Spanish, French, German, Danish, Hindi, and perhaps others.

oh dear, you're so young and already a stroke? damn. how do you read this forum tho?

I can't imagine not being able to read. I get *very* upset if I can't read the morning paper (thats why I hate Sundays, where I live right now there's no Sunday paper, and the Saturday one just doesn't seem that fresh anymore on a Sunday morning ;p). I don't know what I would talk about with most NTs if it wasn't current events...

I read everything there is, on boxes, flyers, ads everything. people always assume I check all my food for calories before buying when in fact I'm just looking if there isn't something interesting to read on the box LOL

my parents always used to forbid me to read while eating (they said it's rude if you're around others) so I always feel a little guilty about it but do it anyways.

Sorry- it was meant to be hypothetical! I haven't had a stroke, fortunately! Thank you for the concern, though. I have worked with people who have lost the ability to read from strokes, and it is awful for them.

Yes. Do not read for pleasure much at all. Over the last 10 years I have read the Harry Potter series and that is it for fiction.

Maybe a better question would be, "Can you go without reading fiction novels for the rest of your life?"

Good question.

I don't see how it could be possible. I'd feel miserable if I couldn't read anything. Heck, I even turn on the captioning on my TV so I can keep on reading.

If I was unable to read and therefore not knowing what reading could bring, I wouldn't miss it. Do you miss space travel? No, cos you not done it

Yes! I could survive. And I would still want to. But I would prefer having books. If I knew about books and books were taken away, I would be very angry and rebellious. If I didn't know any better, I would probably still feel there was something missing. I
m sure I feel this way about quite a few future inventions, without having the insight to imagine what they are...

I also would read after 'lights out' at night.

Perhaps I could live without reading, but I would not want to try.

I find reading a wast of time most the time because say I'm into something and buy a book on it. I'll read the book but for some reason non of what I read stays in my mind and I forget all I've read almost straight away. I have no idea why this happens but its annoying when I want to learn stuff.
