I am and I'm proud of it, too. I'm so proud of my Left-Handedness and my Accent, that I almost picked Little Britian as my Nickname when I first joined.

Left.

I got into trouble though at school when we had special scissors for left-handed people. I use scissors in my right-hand. My teacher got mad at me when she saw me using them in my right hand...

exactly the same here! i think that probably comes under aspie literal mindedness- because i had always been called "left-handed" (because i write with my left hand) it never occured to me that i should use the the scissors for right-handed people, even though i use my right hand for cutting with scissors.

Hecate - it's odd that something like scissors should be the exception, as I cut bread with my left hand and have trouble eating properly sometimes - I hold things with the knife and tear with the fork. (When I used to set the table back to front, Dad always asked - how many LH people are eating tonight? to which the answer was two - my mother and I!)

Scissors often require more precision than knives - you draw with the blades round an object - and yet I pick them up in my RH.

I didn't want to say it was literal-mindedness - I don't think I even noticed I did it until my teacher caught me. I think I just assumed I was LH with scissors. But maybe it was just subconscious - which in actual fact makes it more plausible than a conscious following of the idea that since I am LH, then I use the LHers' scissors even though I use them in my RH.

for me, there doesn't seem to be any consistancy for what i feel naturally inclined to use my left hand for, and what i feel naturally inclined to use my right hand for. i write with my left, use scissors with my right, throw under-arm with my left, throw over-arm with my right, stir spoons with my left, kick with my right (leg), apply make-up with my left and i drink from a cup with my right.

the closest explanation i can think of is that my left seems to be dominant with my fine motor skills and my right seems to be dominant with my gross motor skills- but even this isn't completely consistant. :?

that's interesting, I was just about to write something similar but with left and right swapped. don't know if I'm left or right handed, I've always assumed I'm right handed. dad is left-handed, mum is right-handed.

I get dyspraxia in my left hand and dystonia in my right hand. so I'm clumsy with my left hand, and jerky with my right. if I write with my left hand it's messy and unreadable, so I have to write with my right hand. but when I do my hand muscles all tense up, I get writers cramp, and it even spreads to other muscles making me tense all over. it's very painful. (it's not painful at all to write with my left hand, just illegible!)

if I drink from a mug with my left hand I'll spill drink everywhere or miss my mouth with the mug. if I hold the cup in my right hand I grip it far too tight, then I get shakes and muscle tremor (and it can spread all over), so I still end up spilling the drink :( so for drinking I prefer to use the left hand, unless I'm in a public place, when I'll use my right hand. I find there's all sorts of funny rules as to what hand I'll use for what task, it depends on far more than just what the task is, it can depend on where I am and what else is going on. and if I'm extremely overloaded everything swaps, I'll use the other hand for any task, I won't know I'm doing it.

when playing the piano i tend to hit the wrong notes with my left hand, and hit the right notes but at the wrong rhythm and volume with my right hand (it snatches at notes). maybe that explains why I can't play guitar at all... or maybe I should try playing guitar left-handed???

I am much jumpier about being touched on the left side of my body than the right. my left side feels 'closer' to me, the right side feels distant. so if someone's going to hug me I prefer to be hugged on the right. but if it's someone I'm intimate with, it swaps - then I prefer left-hugs, right-hugs feel awkward.

jimi hendrix and kurt cobain played guitar left-handed, so it worked for them.

i tried to learn to play guitar, but i never really got past the basic chord formations. maybe if i'd tried it left-handed i would've been better at it..... but it would be really difficult to un-learn playing it right-handed now.

I am Left handed but many in family are right handed most likely caused by Cerebral Palsy since my right side is affected.
