Conservatism
That was essentially Hitlers' idea.
WRONG! HITLER'S idea was that everyone tow HIS(HITLER"S) line! HIS idea was that foreigners should LEAVE or be wiped out. People talk about him being antijew. He WASN'T! He was ANTISEMITIC!! !! There IS a difference. He wasn't against their creed, but THEM. Likewise, he was against others as well.
The US ideal was that people would ASSIMILATE! When my great grandmother came here, she spoke German at home. Heck, she lived in Wisconsin, so she probably liked the idea of the food created by all the germanic cultures that were there. A lot of US dishes ARE developed from german ones. Heck, one revolutionized food processing, and another made jeans! But you know what!?!?!? She got along! She spoke ENGLISH! Heck, I met her, and she just seemed like a nice woman. I didn't even know she could speak german until much later. I don't even know how involved my mothers family is with irish culture, but a wake WAS decidedly irish! STILL, they fit in. They, as my great grandmother, identified with being AMERICAN! NOT because they were ashamed or hiding, but because they were proud to be in America, and wanted to fit in. HEY, everyone ELSE did it ALSO.
That was essentially Hitlers' idea.

You have an awful lot to learn about Hitler, the Nazi movement and the impact it had on Europe as a whole, not just the Jewish community.
No, my statement wasn't "wrong"- simply better informed than yours.
2uken I like how you have your facts straight.
There was more to Hitler than being antisemetic, in fact he condemned all occultists (ironically except Himmler), because he did not want people thinking there was something of a higher power than HE was. Ha! Occultism is what got him on his feet too, which is another ironic fact. He was to hypocritical for his own good, claiming to love his race but chose to slay countless Slavs. On top of wanting to defeat his neighbors he also wanted to "convert" them so to speak, to be like Germany/"his image", so I guess we could call him the ultimate culture conservatist lol, just a little corrupt. I would have been fine with him if he didn't barge into other countries as he did. After all, he DID do some good things for his country, like take it out of its economic downfall most importantly. Most people won't agree with me because they refuse to see both sides of certain stories, no matter how brutal it may be. But hey, you can't deny history.

Gee, why don't you just say you are better informed at EVERYTHING than anyone, if you believe a statement makes that much of a difference. Actually, I DO know how much of an impact it was. HECK, it was WORLD war II!! !! !! ! Do you, perhaps, not know that? I DID say "Likewise, he was against others as well. ". I COULD have described FAR more, but that would have been far beyond the scope of our statements. I don't believe the US has ever had a war to take over other countries. They DID take over part of America, and there were some coups by others, but It isn't like the US went into these countries via war, to change them, etc.... and take them over like the NAZIs tried to do. The UK was far more tenacious.
LOL
But your right, not to the extreme the Nazis took it =p
And by the way, about how you said I was right, have I ever posted something that isn't on the forums? hehe (I'm not used to people agreeing with me sorry lol)
Synth- anything Hitler did for his country that could possibly be viewed as positive is negated by the fact that he (and his cronnies) murdered more than half-a-million German citizens: Those that were deamed unfit for the German populace. Among those were the handicapped, autistic, physically deformed and mentally retarted. He was simply an equal-opportunity hater and murderer.
He didn't really do anything good for Germany. He basically wanted to be more than a KING. The idea that everyone in a civilized country feel obliged to hail and cowtow to someone they call "the leader" is so ludicrous as to be surreal. If not for the fact that even the GERMANS acknowledge it, I would consider it the most bizarre of attempts at propaganda. I didn't even think about it before, but 1984 probably IS a blend of how today would be if that type of mindset continued to today.
HECK, is any other nation in europe like that? I mean the UK, denmark, etc... are monarchies(at least in that they have a roayl family), and THEY aren't run anywhere near that. Stories of how germany used to be don't sound like that either.
The reason everyone bowed to him is because he came up with solutions to better the country, and give them a sense of strength after the devistation of losing a war and economic breakdown. Also, I don't care what people think, did what he had to do from keeping Germany being invaded by non-Germans. On top of that he did a bunch of stupid s**t no doubt. But still...
So the brownshirt churches, SS, Gestapo, and having everyone turn everyone else in had nothing to do with it? Still, I think you and NocturnalQuilter are trying to engender a bad disussion, so I will stop here also.
