Them Voices
And you're a psychologist as well as a moderator with an undiagnosed case of AS?
Severe depression can also cause one to hear voices, and have other hallucinations. Go and look it up, and get your facts straight.
You mean PSYCHIATRIST. And certain kinds of auditory hallucinations are more common to Schizophrenia than general psychosis or even psychotic mood disorders.
I disagree with both of you. But Schizophrenia I doubt is as common in AS as is, say, Bipolar Disorder or a Psychotic Depression. Or even Psychotic NOS.
Psychotic Episodes are not uncommon to Aspies. Check the ICD.
And, ascan, let's keep corrections civil. Just impart the information. Not the insult.

How... dark was this alternate persona? what were its desires, its motivations? what did it accomplish through your physical instrumentality?
Well, it bogged down my personality and turned me into a cynic...but that may have been the depression. More stress through constant use of self control to not go crazy. It's a time that is mostly blocked out, thankfully so. I'd rather not remember it.

I really can't imagine a voice popping into my own head. I mean, if a voice were going to get me to do anything it'd have to come in some way that i'd accept it. It have to appear as a thought of my own. Because if a voice told me something like, "Go kill your parents!" I'd talk back to it. I wouldn't be afraid, and i wouldn't care much about it. I'd be like, "But that takes so much effort! Can't i just annoy the s**t out of him or something? Like leave the toilet seat up or something?"
Or perhaps a voice would say, "Feet are the answer the universe, they are the basis of all power in the universe, go cut off 20 peoples feet and build a idol of worship out of it!"
I'd be like, "Well perhaps they are the basis of all power in the universe, but i'm not interested in having power. You figure out a way to get me free cable, and i'll think about it."
Then it tells me, "To get free cable you must frickazee a cat's corpse over the cable box while chanting, "It's a small world afterall." And i'd say, "I don't want free cable that bad."
I'm so used to talking to myself, and i'm so introspective i have no subconscious desires or thoughts which i'm not aware of. At least that i'm aware of, i can accept that that which i am not aware of i cannot know about. So i may have thoughts i'm not aware of, but i think it is unlikely because i believe there is no right or wrong, or evil or good, and i dont think i have any thoughts or desires which i might personally find unacceptable to have and think over.
To me it seems like schizophrenics voices are thoughts they have but cannot allow themselves to think about, or accept that some part of them thinks that so they repress it and it comes out as hallucinations they cannot block.
I do not have any of these thoughts. So if i were to get schizophrenia i wonder what i would hallucinate about. I kind of believe that if i got schizophrenia, nobody, including me would really notice, and i'd just live on my life occasionally endulging in fantasies as though they were reality.

DO I ?
Hey, I can do size 15 too!
Does having that moderator tag after your name give you telepathic powers, as well as that smarmy air of authoritarian condescension?
Oh jeez, it's f*****g lecture time again!
You know, I really should tell you to go to hell; but that wouldn't be a good idea, would it?
Have I ever asked you how you got the job, Sophist?
neither, as far as i am aware. however, a psychiatrist would be in a position to diagnose schizophrenia, and not a psychologist, so sophist is quite correct.
you probably haven't, but i can do that quite easily: it's the same as any other moderator. you can read the process here
hope that clears things up.
on a related note - if you have a specific problem with the moderators, or the moderation process, please let us know.

I'm afraid you're wrong, vetivert; though if you wish to cite some references to back up your assertion, please do. Clinical psychologists do diagnose mental disorders, certainly here in the UK. However, there is a distinction between a clinical psychologist and a psychiatrist in that the latter can prescribe drugs. Things may be different in the US, and although I'm aware many there believe the world revolves around them, in this case I'm English, and with that in mind the statement I made was sound.
Anyway, even if Sophist was correct on who's legally able to diagnose, my statement was still sound in that a psychologist would most likely still recognise the symptoms — after all it's what they study, is it not?

So we can be told "this is a private forum and the moderators can do what the f**k they want and if you don't like it you can take a hike" or something similar?

not at all - in the interests of receiving feedback, of making a genuine grievance public, and of being given the chance to either explain decisions made, or of sorting out glitches in the system. veiled suggestions of accusations do none of these things.

There is no transparency to your system here, vetivert. What has been created is what many of us wish to escape — a system controlled by a privileged few, for the benefit of that privileged few. How can anyone expect rules to be applied fairly and consistently when you ask for financial donations, then keep the contributers anonymous? When you give moderator status to people who clearly aren't capable of handling authority?
Having said that, I concede that all in all you people don't do too bad a job. Credit where credit's due, and all that. But, you do have a problem in what I've outlined above.
Ascan, are you feeling OK today, because you're starting to sound a bit like me!! !!
Well RobertN, you know how it is...
(btw, best stay clear of that thread about the closet, or you'll be needing some sedatives from hecate)
Any psychologist, psychiatrist, or neurologist (and even a physician for that matter) are technically qualified diagnostiticians. My mother is a psychologist, ascan, and you don't need to clarify the information for me.
But most psychologists do not come across schizophrenics in their line of work. Yes, they could diagnose them but they usually leave that up to a psychiatrist because it's more their territory.
And if anyone doesn't like my pedantry (hence my other title), then that's really too bad. Because I like being pedantic and I'm well aware that I am.

Lecture me about something you sexy beast ^_^.
Honestly i do enjoy being lectured at, my memory absorbs it like a never ending library of movies.
Btw, ask your mother if she thinks happeh was schizophrenic.

What are you complaining about, Sophist? I've got ghotistix PMing me trying to stick a racism charge on me, and saying I insulted you by telling you that I should tell you to go to hell. He's dropped the racism charge — can you believe it, one of your lot calling me a racist, then turning round and saying: Oh, sorry, got it wrong (or something similar)? What bloody redress do I have against your unelected unaccountable buddies when they start insulting me?
You have AS and you're pedantic, I have AS and I'm blunt. You start lecturing me in size 15 font and you're going to get a response. I don't wish to hurt your feelings, but it's a bloody poor show when ghotistix uses it to further a personal vendetta started when I upset a lady friend of his (who funnily enough got promoted to moderator)
:D
I offer you smiles instead

But just to let you know, I always post in size 15, no matter the subject. I just like big letters.
And there is a difference between just bluntness and a personal attack. Personal attacks aren't allowed on WP. The lady, I assume you're referring to, is nirrti. I brought up the subject in the mods forum so you know. After I'd read your response to her.
Attacks are against the TOS. Thankfully for me, pedantry currently is not. ![]()
