The sound of my cats purring
The feel of my cats' fur when I pet them
The presence of my cats (and dog) in general

I've been reading this thread for the past few days now and I'm intrigued. So much sensory input we receive and take for granted...I'm curious now to go through all mine. This may be kinda long. :)

First off, I think I'm kind of the odd one out because I love COLD. I love being absolutely frozen. I have voluntarily taken cold showers and baths, in fact when I have panic attacks the only thing that really helps is a freezing cold bath. It's just such a fantastic shock to the system, I love it. I miss snow so much, I enjoy slogging through about 3 feet of snow, my fingers and toes and ears and nose all numb and red, yum. My husband gets mad when I jack the air conditioning up way high, so to compensate I have fans going all over the house. I must have circulating air: fans going, if possible windows open, even in a car with the AC going I have to roll my window down at least a little, else I feel like I can't breathe.

On the opposite end, I hate heat. I hate being warm/hot, especially hate sweating. Bear in mind I live in FL and I'm considerably overweight, so pretty much walking out my front door puts me in a state of extreme discomfort. Dry heat is bad, wet heat/humidity is just awful, ugh. I actually get physically sick when I'm overheated: nausea, headache, sometimes just collapse. I think I'm more sensitive to heat and prefer cold because I have a slightly lower than normal body temp, I average about 96-97 degrees instead of 98.6.

I'm pretty well comfy as long as I'm not too warm and there's air moving over me. I have difficulties at night sometimes because most if not all of our pets (3 dogs and 3 cats) like to sleep on the bed with us and that can get rather HOT and confining, so I tend to kick the covers off a lot, except I still have to keep my feet covered. I love sleeping on clean cool sheets, the t-shirt/jersey type material are my favorites, so soft and comfy. And I must have my big fluffy pillow, I hate the flat ones, I can't sleep with my head flat down.

Clothes-wise, nothing tight, I much prefer my baggy jeans and big shirts. With a chunky body like mine, anything restrictive is just way too uncomfy. I hate bras and only wear one if I absolutely have to, like if we're going someplace nice. I don't even like shoes all that much, I have a pair of Birkenstock sandals that I wear all the time, they're open-toed so my feet can breathe. I hate closed up shoes, dress shoes and sneakers and all that, can't stand them. I go barefoot as much as I can, I have tough little hobbit feet. :)

I love to bury my face in my dogs' and cats' sides, I love the feel of their fur and their smell.
I love the smell of cologne on men.
I love thunderstorms, the louder and scarier the better.
I love to suck on cough drops, I eat them like candy.
I love to rip scabs off and pop pimples; I know, ew, but there's just something very satisfying about it.
I love having my hair washed and brushed; I have long thick curly red hair and my husband loves to play with it, it's very relaxing.
I love having my back cracked.
I love going under general anesthesia.
I love that sensation where you're just about asleep, your whole body is totally relaxed and pretty much shut down and you couldn't move unless you absolutely had to.
I love sweet foods, not just junk and chocolate but also stuff like sweet and sour chicken, barbecue, coleslaw, sweet potatoes, etc.

That's all I can think of, for now. :)

It relaxes me to drink water. Not merely drink it, but swallow it in big gulps, with my throat wide open. I enjoy the feeling of having my throat filled with water.

I like bread. Soft, fresh, hot bread. I love to dig my teeth on it.

I love cherries. And everything made with cherries.

It soothes me to hear a bagpipe, a thunder, or somebody speaking in the accent of the Bogotá area.

I like cold weather.

i was just thinking to myself about some things... and also the fact im headed to the hospital for some x-rays friday. and a thought popped into my head...

lead aprons... who here likes the way it feels... *raises hand* i admit i have to say yes... and ive fallen asleep countless times while getting my big yearly x-ray series done (takes about 20-30 minutes) i decided to do some googling today and lo and behold i find the ones that the radiologist wears that goes all the way around you...

http://www.axms.com/productcart/pc/view ... product=82 not bad on pricing either... even has the neck thingie like my radiologist has, sweet sweet pressure on my neck, i love pressure on my neck! another cool thing is, simple to mummy wrap too... just get someone else to help you and they strap your arms inside with the belly strap ;) man... i would fall asleep soooo easy that way...

too bad my parents dont understand me enough to do interventional things like this otherwise i would be looking for this under that christmas tree ;) about time i stopped loosing sleep to my sensory issues...

so heres a few questions,

when you go for x-rays do you like the lead apron?

would you sleep in one at home if given the opportunity?

would you not be embarrased if sensory issues made it necessary to wear in public?

i would answer yes to all three.. if people asked me on the third id just say "aww shucks... forgot to take my apron off when going to break..."

lead apron accomplished. i has it :D

see here.

I love wind. If it's windy at night, I'll sleep next to the window with it open. Wind has a kind of sensation that just gives me such a good feeling.

wow!
How have I not seen this thread until now???!?
My favorite sensations... Oh man.
I've often been faulted by others for being "too wrapped up" in physical sensation.
But this is part of how I work. The way I experience the world and understand it.
I will attempt to restrict myself to simple tactile sensations, because I really want to go off on a litany of sensory perception, but I'll refrain.

So, my favorite sensations:

.dirt and grass on my bare feet.
.hot sauce on my tongue and throat.
.having tons of blankets and pillows piled on top of me.
.guitar strings or piano keys pressing back against my fingers as I play them.
.sand. lots and lots of sand. anywhere and everywhere.
.running water. as in a shower or a stream.
.underwater. pressure at depth.
.intense wind. or other atmosphere.
.music. bouncing off my eardrums. loud music vibrating up through the floor and shaking my whole body.

I'll stop there....

I like the feeling of pins and needles quite a bit, I try to get my arms and feet to fall asleep just for that reason. Then I wait until the numbness wears off, and wave my hands around or walk fast paced to feel this buzzing feeling. I find it entertaining.

I'm not the only one who likes pins and needles! They are really fun I like it when I can't feel my fingers and I prod and poke them without feeling a thing.
