I took a survey elsewhere and most of the respondents couldn't relate to the idea of "visual snow." Something else I've heard it called is pixellation.

Anyway, I have both.

It doesn't look like TV snow, it looks more like if you were to cross a microscope slide filled with river water and combine that with all the neon lights from Las Vegas.

They almost look like living shapes, in all sorts of different neon colors. Sometimes I'll see a group of shapes that "swim" towards me in a wave pattern like a school of fish. They'll then swim past and out of my field of vision. Sometimes I see a mutlicolored globe that kind of looks like the AT&T logo. It will start to spin, go faster and faster, and then eventually spin so fast that it disappears into a big blot and disperses.

Yeah, this is some weird stuff that I see, and I swear if I concentrate, I can CONTROL what these lights do to a certain degree. I've seen them all my life, but I don't notice them unless it's very dark or I have my eyes closed, then it's like BAM! Light show!

I've had tinnitus since a bad case of meningitis as a child, which also damaged my hearing.
I see the lights you describe, they are apparently called "phosphenes", and I can sometimes get them to do a sort of screensaver pattern and alter the colours if I concentrate.
I get a bit of the visual snow thing, but only if I am very tired.

I have pretty nasty tinnitus, and I also have had visual snow as long as I can remember.

Tinnitus i get sometimes and it's not good. BC powder or other aspirin make it worse.
Visual snow, thank you for the term, i didn't know it had a name and it is good to have a name.

I have had possible visual snow yet it would only be at night in parts of my vision field that are affected. Since i was a child i have seen patterns in the dark, its not similar to the example shown, so i don't know. It's like the dark changes patterns after awhile and i've also seen floating "schools" as in similar to how fish swim, of little balls of light that move until they are out of my peripheral vision range.

This seemed to happen when i was a child the most with the schools of balls of light

Can you see the "schools" changing into different recognizable shapes such as letters and then changing back into unformed blobs if you focus on them?

I experience quite a lot of visual snow. I think it's gotten worse lately. Well, perhaps it hasn't gotten worse, I'm probably just more aware of it now than I was before. For me it's the worst in bright lights and when looking at the sky etc. However, I still experience it when it's dark as well.

I've had it for as long as I can remember. I remember loads of times when I've looked out the window and I've asked people if it's raining outside when in fact what I saw was visual snow (didn't figure that out until recently though).

I have always had ringing in my ears when things get quiet, even as a child I would wonder about it. Its the reason I always have a radio and television on near me (or earphones playing music), the ringing gets annoying but it not really there when there is noise from something. I also experience visual snow when in a dark room.

It is the brain going nuts, when it hasn´t any visual stimulus to interpret.
