Who else cuts their own hair?

My mom always cut my hair until I moved out of the house a couple years ago at around 20.

Now I just cut it myself with a machine.

What I figured is I like it simple and short anyway, so why use all the time and energy and money on doing it professionally when I can do it myself for free in 10 minutes tops.

I think this may be the answer to why so many Aspies cut their own hair: logic.

Seriously. Why pay someone else to do it for you, when you can do it yourself for free? It doesn't make financial sense.

When my hair was long I used to part it down the middle and pull it forward over my shoulders to cut it. That way I could see it in the mirror. My hair is wavy so it never mattered if it was perfectly even.

I think I will start doing so. I hate the stupid chitchat the hairdresser makes and can't find any "autism friendly" ones who would agree to not talk to me at all during the haircut.

I've cut my own hair before and it came out pretty good, but I decided to go even shorter at the time. Now, I just want to grow it very long again and then I'll probably just trim my own ends.

No, it would look ridiculous.

I did it a lot for my second year at university and maybe some of my first year.

It ended up being quite addictive, and if I had a quiet weekend's night in I'd've taken out my nail scissors and cut back on it. I soon got into cutting the back of my head down by feel, not having to use a mirror much to make it still look less than horrific. But I'm fond of a prickly doormat feel when I have my haircut, so there were always going to be some mistakes at those lengths.

Let's be frank. I'm looking through photos of myself now over the time where I cut my own hair, and ever since where I've either had my hair cut professionally or by apprentices at a top hairdressers. My self-cuts are top-heavy and the "shorter" parts look as if my hair's thinning on them, and the "longer" parts look bushy and not well managed. Things currently look more in-line, and some of the apprentice haircuts I've had have been unbelievable!

I cut my own hair,
all hair shoulder-length, wear it in a ponytail, I can't stand the feeling of my hair touching my skin, it's sensory, all hair must be out of my face.
Cut it like every 3 month or so.

No, she's a Russian singer who's currently one of my obsessions. I do have many similar features to hers, though, and want to try to look like her once I get a chance to spend more time on my appearance (and once my hair grows out more, of course).

I have cut my own hair, but normally my husband cuts it for me. The salon interaction is definitely not for me.

Well, I'm Russian and have lived there during my first 11 years of life. It's not the best place to live. There's huge economic inequality, a very high crime rate, and people tend to be really unfriendly there. Also, I lived in Moscow for a while and the air there is very polluted - I think their regulations on pollution are much lower than in Western countries and probably Australia too. The small city where I was born and lived most of the time was much better in terms of air quality, but it was also urbanized relatively recently. I can see why Russia would seem cool to foreigners, though. It is an interesting country in its own right. I've had bad experiences with many Russians, unfortunately, including living in a housing unit with two psychopaths as proximal neighbours.

Anyways, very off topic. Back to hair.

I cut my own hair, about once a year when my ponytails get too long. I went to a salon to get it done a few years ago and it was way too expensive to justify going back. I can do it fine myself, have been doing it myself since I was about 13.

I cut my kids' hair too, they both have ASD so it's nice to be able to handle this issue at home. I only know how to do 1 haiurcut, so they both get the same, and my husband too.

Nope. I usually pay a hairdresser/barber. I'd probably make a mess of my hair if I did it myself, to be perfectly honest. Plus cutting it myself doesn't sound particularly enjoyable.
