I would be willing to give it a try. It would be interesting to see how Normals think and behave and perceive us.

No, for two reasons:

1. I'll never be what's considered "normal"
-and-
2. Even if I could be, I wouldn't be because the majority of "normal" people follow the herd without a second thought, and the only reason I'm not like that myself, is because of my experiences as an individual with AS.

I would probably do it because I'm curious how a typical person would perceive the world around them. Though in my case, I don't think too much would change expect me being more sociable, being comfortable in loud and busy areas and more. I do wonder how my intelligence and mind will be affected though.

Before I thought for 24 hours I would, but really...nope.

I don't think I would be that much different to what I am as an Aspie, but it still sure would change a few things about my lifestyle.

I would fit in more at work. Not saying that I don't fit in at all, but if I were NT (with no other afflictions like depression or anything) I would probably feel less emotionally isolated and would probably know more what to say when in a room with another person. I would probably ask more questions about them, or know which appropriate interpersonal questions to ask them. Even if I was still a shy NT, I still won't be the most quietest person at work, or be known as ''the girl with the disability''. I know other shy or introverted or socially awkward NTs at work who still seem more noticed than me.

I suppose everyone is different, though. There's a guy at work who is very chatty, cheery, nice, and can even be flirtatious, but at his break he always goes into his car alone to eat lunch, rather than sitting in the staff room with the others. Where as I'm quiet, nervous and depressed, but I still prefer to sit and eat lunch with the other workers than to sit on my own. I feel social interaction does me good.

I could go on and on forever about all the reasons why I would want to be neurotypical, until I end up screaming with fury because of not being neurotypical. So, what you wrote is also my short answer to the title of this thread. :)

Totally agree with you. I want a cure and I want to be NT. A nice introverted NT who nevertheless is outspoken.

I already answered that I would like to be NT for a week, just as I think it would be fascinating to be anyone else for a week. Thinking about it though, I think it would be different and much more impactful than being anyone else. Based on little "niglets" that pop into my head for short periods of time. this is how I think I would be different and how it would feel,

I think I would initially feel incredibly excited about being capable of learning things I found boring. I think I would be excited, and then depressed because I knew it wouldn't last. The same with executive function and sensory issues.

I am guessing that if I were having to put together a holiday, vacation, playdate with one of the grand kids, an event, anything like that, I would consider it would be "just one thing" rather than a passion i enjoy more than any child could.

I think that I would probably be disgusted and depressed by all of the money i give to the homeless, find myself saying thing like "Well, they're just going to spend it on alcohol and drugs" I can see myself writing a letter to myself to save up that money for a facelift. I would probably send a magnified picture of my wrinkled old face along with the letter.

It would be so cool not to have to spend alot of energy on figuring right from left.

i would probably write a letter to myself giving advice on how to appear more 'normal" and definitely a better balanced schedule. The letter wouldn't help that much because I have already tried that myself. But when I got back to being me I would try to make some changes based on what I learned.

I think that during that week I would tell off a few truly mean people. when I got back to being autistic I think I would be secretly relieved about it.

I don't think the deer would come up to me when I was outside.

I think that I would wonder why I had taken so long to go no contact with the majority of my family. Or maybe [shudder] I would become one of them.

I think the 'your pain in my heart"type of empathy I possess would be lessened or gone. I think I would grieve at that loss while at the same time addding to my letter to autistic self urging it to be a permanent change.

I think i would have less difficulty putting outfits together.

I think I {NT Vicky] would wonder how I [autistic Vicky] managed to be content living in a tiny travel trailer. I think she would get my place more organized and make a few decorating changes that I [autistic Vicky] would absolutely love.

These are all guesses of course and I could be totally off base, but this is how I imagine it would be if I were NT for a week.

No, I don't see the point. If I could choose to change history and been born NT right from the start, I'd consider it. If I could choose to change history and been brought up in a traditional discipline-orientated / school-of-hard-knocks family the way many of us who got away with AS were (learning life skills in boot-camp fashion), so I could have the best of both worlds, I would.

But to be NT for a week, or even a year, would disrupt the person I have managed to become and would not help me get the things in life that I didn't have nor sustainably help me to win the things I can still get from where I am now. So there'd be no point.
