people that wine about people on wellfare and being a terrible burden on thenm make themselves look ignorant of how a modern economy relly works

the goverment expenditure to people on wellfare is very very low compared to the total expediture on everything making people on wellfare very errelevant as a burden to society and buy giving people wellfare you help stimulate the economy more and as a whole the society is equal to that of if they are working or very small

you all just like bullying people who you feel are less than you because you yourself are weekminded and selfish
you can only point fingers at people that are down your scared to go after anybody on the same ´´level´´ as you because youll get smacked so your in fack a bully

I think computer nerds are more of a burden to society becasue you are paid way more then you are actually worth and throw off the balance of power and ruin society
you reward yourself and think your great cause of your income and knowlege but you are far from greater then any of your neighbors on wellfare you have just manipulated the modern society to fullfill your selfish needs and that goes for office whores too ticker

As you can see I am the tree of knowlege and I will accpet your appology when it is ready

Disabled or excuse? You don't believe in working a 40 hour week? Then get out of this society
um what part of i think people should work dont you understand? it doesnt matter if you work 5 hours a week of 80 hours a week, your still paying taxes. so i'm not gonna feel guilty about using any services i qualify for. leave this sociaty? yes please! unfortunatley there's no land left. its all taken, this is exactly the attitude i'm talking about, if you dont work 40 hours a week your worthless, get out of my face with that you self rightous snob. your not better than anyone here just because you work more hours

You're not better then anyone on this planet - this society is the best we've ever had and while its not perfect, you sitting there and whining about it and crying like a baby like some emo isn't going to change anything, in fact, while you sit there and cry, realize everything will still the exact same. I love this whiney attitude and yet, you call people who b***h about you "whiners" yet, your whole LIFE is based around it.

Wah wah, I can't work 40 hours, so I'll justify stealing other peoples money by working 4 hours, pay a measley 4 cents in tax, receive a HUGE tax refund because of it (while people like my father have to pay MORE money (he had his own company but I'm sure you know nothing about that with your 2 hour a week job)). You sit there and think you justify but outside your little world, the REAL world exists. You really think any of us owe your NOW worthless ass anything? What do you do asides from b***h and cry? Oh, tell others to stop bitching about other peoples lazy and/or bad attitudes and walk the other way like your side is the only one that exists.

Richard, didn't you list the types of drugs you used? If you have, you are a terrific spokesman and everyone on Wrongplanet should listen to you. Ex-Drug addict, works part part-time, believes in welfare.

Why dont you tell me how else to spend my money! You think I'm ignorant and selfish, yet, you're telling me what to do with my money that I work my ass of for. Do you understand that or am *I* still being selfish by not telling others how to live. Justify that please (you won't reply). Tell me how using my money for my problems/myself is selfish (keeping in mind others share similar problems to me) versus you telling me how to do it. My choice to spend my money versus your force. Tell me, who's being selfish? I'm not told to buy people christmas gifts, I do though. Tell me why you want to force me to buy christmas gifts!

Quote:
buy giving people wellfare you help stimulate the economy

Umm, you may want to reinvestigate that as Welfare doesnt stimulate the economy. But, again, you saw the idea on paper and thought "wow, thats a terrific idea, it has to work" but again, open your door and step into reality - it aint NO WHERE like that. Paper, real life.. Well, you're all over the paper. After all, social/communist societies are BOOMING aren't they?

You tell me how to spend my money and *I'm* the bully. This is one big giant pity party and the only side you can see is your own. Its one sided and all you see is this:
"Sick person. Corvus' money" < -- thats all you see. You don't see MY RENT costs, MY food costs, MY LIFE. No, to you, thats just me being a bully yet, every reply from you is LACED in insults, assumptions, generalizations, hypocrisy, etc. Why the hell would I give you a dime? All you do is insult, throw around pity, boost your side up, ignore my side and label is selfish, and you walk away thinking you won because everyone else agrees with you. Lets look at those who agree with you - oh thats right, other whiners. You know, the people that are most helped are those that don't ask for it. You said there all helpless and pathetic and make your problem mine. You ignore my whole life and place your life infront of it. YOU are the selfish ones.

I guess my problem is not having any problems. Now YOU'RE all my problem. Thanks. You cry and moan about money and not once have you indicated how you give back to society, not once, all you want to do is take money. Why is that? Again, I dont expect a reply, just more insults and hypocrisy. Why do you want money? This society sucks, you're already to rape it, but you sure as hell aren't eager to change it, give back to it, or help in any way.

Wow, insult me just a few more times and I'll be happy to give you MY money for MY work from MY life while you sit there and insult me and tell ME how to live then call me a bully. Your self awareness ranks at about a -6. In fact, everything YOU are, you are labeling ME as but you are to unself-aware to realize that. Its like talking to a wall that only hears his own side and tells other people how to live.

You are the bully. You are the problem of society.

You sit there and think because I dont want to give to you insulting or lazy or bad attitude people that I'm some selfish prick. Not once have you asked me where I'd like to give my money. You never asked if my family suffered from heart conditions and that I think my money would be better spent into health/research. You never asked if my family suffered with cancer. No, all you think about is yourselves and my money. Thats it. you don't want to help yourself, you just want to insult and get others to help you.

I've all the respect for someone who tries on their own and doesn't ask for help. I don't know what to think of those that sit there and justify a 15 hour a week job means welfare. Compare yourself, right now, to someone similar, anyone on this website, who works fulltime. I want you to ask yourself why this person works and you don't. I want you to list as many excuses and at the end, just think the other persons life is completely flawless and you are the only one who has ever had a problem.

Corvus, would you say the same to someone who was blind? or who had no legs? In alot of ways its even worse having a mental 'disability' (I dont like that word) because even someone with no legs can still function fairly normally in alot of jobs.
You can judge a society by how it treats its prisoners, and I would even extend that to include the elderly and the disabled as well. Its difficult for a functioning person to understand how someone who *appears* normal simply cant hold a job, and its easy for them to label them lazy.
Wellfare is there for a reason, if you think its a tax-burden then you should rather worry about what else your government spends money on (like war, etc), as it is much much much higher.

Anyway, apart from that I agree that the OP should look for a job. There are many jobs where you can work from home and at your own pace. Like sell stuff on eBay or look into SecondLife and other online 'games' where you can make real money. Or start a website, etc etc.

Perfect, you justified it and made it someone elses problem. You see, people like you exist in Canada, too. Just because its now someone else's problem doesn't mean I cannot argue you and your attitude as I still face people like you - you are representing them right now. It doesn't erase anything you say or do towards this.

BTW, you didn't answer any of my questions. You just justified a reason, to yourself, and went on your merry way. Pretty easy.

List of as many problems as you can. Go to Google and type it in - "List of every human condition possible" then ask me that question again. How many people do you think I, and others like me, support on their pay check. Do you think I get paid millions of dollars, and if I do, that all my hard work and effort has to go back into helping everyone with a problem. Isn't it funny that many lottery winners see a lot of "old friends" suddenly come back? Money is a dangerous thing because if I dont give it to everyone with a problem (forgetting my own on YOUR behalfs) then I'm selfish or greedy or something. People conclude if I have a job I make a ton of money. At the end of the month, I dont have a lot left over for ANY of MY needs or interests. Christ, I'm scared to say I bought a guitar because someone will b***h how I should have not bought one but instead, gave it to charity. As my uncle says, I can't give it all away.

What is it you do (EDIT:you have your own business, I read)? I have a tough time believing you do NOTHING all day, just collect pay, so. what do you do? What does anyone do? Sit at home? T.V.? Do yard work? Do you go outside? Can you volunteer? All I hear is people asking for money, yet, I dont hear a damn thing about giving back. Not a thing. Just "Dont you feel bad for such and such?" Here's a tip - I can't throw sympathy to everyone with a problem. Quite frankly, your problems don't compare to those in Darfur - You're not even close. Do you deserve help over them? Where does it end? I cant help everyone, I'm not Bill Gates. I also wouldnt tell Bil Gates to give money to people and hide behind a wall of sympathy.

Quote:

I do argue what they spend it on, but don't triviliaze welfare and think it isn't a problem because of that and try and push my argument to other things. I'm a libertarian and I know the problems associated behind 'handing out money' and 'minimum wage' and the like. I'm very competent on what an open market can entail and how it can help "unemployment" better then all the socialism that exist today. But this is a broad argument.

Do you understand the power of charity? Its specialized. Its there to specifically help specific individuals. The problem with directing everyone to welfare is that its becoming a general "charity" when its REALLY supposed to be a safety net, NOT something to purposely rely on.

And this is also exactly true. There are many alternatives to try. I would like to know what people do all day who collect this paycheck because if they want to get rid of the "stereotype" that they are all lazy, then nows the time. But beware, in doing so, you'll make it seem like you're quite capable of working in some field.

BTW, for the people with severe mental illnesses, what about psyche wards? What about services that find people jobs with their condition? Those are charitable organisations and work better then welfare as welfare doesnt help you find job placements. Anyone clicking into this yet?

As well, everyone here is great at labeling me selfish but for those on welfare, what do you do to help me?

My city is FILLED with poor people, its a huge problem, but even they go around picking cans and bottles out of dumpsters and cash them in at the recycling center. So, if THEY can do it, even being wacked on drugs, living in -21 weather (yes, current temp), anyone can.

I think some people need to read on it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welfare_%2 ... ial_aid%29

Welfare Trap:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welfare_trap

My friend informed me that his father's ex used to collect welfare. 2000 a month. She stayed on welfare because she couldn't find a job to pay her more. 2000 a month is very decent!

It also covers a few alternatives that the US, Japan, and Australia are implementing, such as completely ridding of the idea. (Corvus isnt as ignorant as everyone he said he was as its already happening)

While this a psychological problem versus an economic one, we ARE arguing people with psychological problems and one member has already stated his 15 hours a week is enough. The "trap" describes that perfectly. (I feel an insult coming on)

Am I a bad person for being on Social security?

If I weren't on it, I would have never lived on my own and I still worked but maybe work more than one job just to support myself to live on my own and I know I can't handle a lot of work. I get so overwelmed. I want to work at least 40 hours a week and I want to have a job. I got laid off, I moved to oregon, now looking for another job but I have to get off my ass and start looking for work but luckily my boyfriend got me a Sunday job for early in the morning. It be a night time job so its better than no money. Sure I get some from SSI but I'd rather work because I need something to do, I don't like having lot of time on my hands and I'd rather have extra money too. I do find it a shame that people abuse the SSI system because they choose not to get a job because they get free money from the gov. but yet complain that they don't get enough. That's soemthing I can complain about there. I do know there are people out there who are unable to work due to conditions they have such as having a memory problem so you are unable to remember every step of how to do soemthing at work because everyday the employee training you has to start from scratch everyday teaching you how to do the work so it's like 50 First Dates. You don't remember what you learned the day before. No one wants an employee with that problem unless the person is on some program that helps people with disabilities get jobs and they have job coaches so the job coach helps them do the work and they get paid by another company while the place the disable perosn is working at is getting paid by them. We had that prgram in Montana. I dunno is all states have it.

I beleived my ex had a memory problem but he is probably just lazy and he chooses not to remember things. If he can remember certain things like what people say about politics and certain things, then he can certinaly remember other stuff too such as how to do the work but no, he remembers what he wants to remember. I call it selective memory.

I am not the kind of person who leeches of off SSI and refuses to get a job.

I think its good for some people to get money from the gov who are unable to work or have troubles getting a job or keeping one because of their disability so they aren't a burden to their family. They have some money to help in like pay rent. My parents charged me rent when I got SSI and it also gave me money to gas and my things I needed like shampoo, shaving cream, razor blades, pads or tampons, new shoes or clothes and it helped my parents out. I still worked but unfortunitly I didn't have a good job, the job I had only lasted me at least an hour because I did cleaning at a folkshop and then I got a new job in housekeeping so I worked more hours and quit my other job.

I'm not even sure if I'm the kind of person who have troubles keeping a job because of issues I have. I was lucky to have an understanding boss when i worked in housekeeping. She was willing to work with me, not get mad for misunderstandings or for anxiety or when I got overwelmed. I still did my owrk and I learned to adapt to changes in my routines and not get upset until I try it like assuming its going to take me forever to do soemthing but instead it doesn't. I'm not going to worry about being unable to keep a job. I just have to wait and see.

likedcalico - I can tell, by how you type, that you try your hardest - its the attitude you have towards it that is different from others who are charged with 'insults' and 'put downs.'

The problem is that welfare is a "go to" solution for many. While people like you are not like that and fight to rise out of it, many exist and abuse this system at everyone elses expense. They ruin an idea you 'use,' and exploit its holes. They steal from hard workers, from those who make just over poverty, and sit there and justify it however they can. They may have REAL reasons, but many do not. Many will actively protest the amount they receive. This isn't strictly welfare related - its also insurance related. People abuse what they can because they can find a way so they do. Others excuse their behaviour simply because others abuse it so they think "why not? I pay!"

IF one must work 2 jobs, one must work 2 jobs, thats the truth of reality and it DOES suck, no argument. They CAN move (like I did) to a market where there are more jobs then people. Now, I have ample choice to work.

Charity is still a better option and while you dont want to be a burden to your family/friends, you are now a burden on society. One person, alone, may not be but those "individuals" add up into a "group." Now we have 1 group amoung many, all tugging the arms of the tax payers requesting money. This is the problem - no one wants to help themselves (when they can) but instead, they ask the government aka the tax payers. Anything the government does is at its citizens expenses. They are not a business. I'm not your protector. I've my own expenses and troubles in MY environment. I think people love to make others feel bad for 'people with problems' but they do not understand that one cannot simply 'help' everyone.

I'm with Corvus on this one for the most part, I think.

Seriously, there are so many different human conditions that COULD prevent you from getting ONE KIND OF JOB, but there are almost always other options out there. Blind? Dude, a lot of blind people get our there and do their thing. Here, the government puts them on a waiting list for a seeing-eye dog if they want one...if it helps them NORMALISE their lives. I know of a graphic designer who can't see six inches from her face even with some of the strongest prescription glasses available. She's albino - has a lot of related health problems, including nearly no vision. She catches the bus to work and back since she can't drive, and designs with her nose pressed against her monitor. She earns a good wage because she's a bloody good designer...she should really be crippled with her condition, but I think she'd prefer to work full-time and live a normal life rather than sitting there feeling sorry for herself.

Thinking of Aspergers as an excuse to not even TRY is pathetic. My man is AS, but he hasn't let that stop him. The opposite, in fact. He currently works longer hours than me, and with his upcoming promotion, will be earning more than me too. He's not an expert in the field he's working in but the boss has noticed that he learns quickly and does his job well. Short temper? That's what throwing tyres around is for ;) It stresses him out but he does this thing called dealing with it!

My sister has a host of horrible medical conditions. Sometimes it causes her such pain that she was taken to hospital and shot up on morphine AND NOS to dull it at one stage. It disrupted a LOT of her school life because the things she suffered through were debilitating to start with. So what did she do? Graduated with spectacular marks, then went and got TWO jobs. Yes, two...nearly 50 hours a week at a mere 17. Earned a solid wage too, almost has enough to buy herself a car. She's learned to live with her condition - several of her internal organs are VERY unhappy, let's just say - and though she may not be able to go out and booze with her friends, she's doing very well. She could be on welfare...but instead she sucks it up and moves on. She's just had surgery, yet she still works one of those jobs in a kitchen at the local golf club, serving scrumptious meals. She's about to start studying interior design at university too. This is what you call perseverance.

My old science teacher back at school - she had a muscle-eating disease, can't remember the name of it. She was wasting away, it's a lifelong condition. For a while, she was scared it was eating her heart. But still she taught...it caused her pain, she was tired and stressed, but she did it anyway. Sometimes she couldn't even teach she was in such a state, but she'd be in as soon as she could to get us all back up to speed :) An admirable woman.

Welfare is supposed to be a fall-back. We are all initially created to be able to fend for ourselves, stand tall without having to rely on the rest of the pack. Back in the day, reliance was the difference between life and death. If you can't get a job - the government can support you until you can support yourself. If you have a disability that prevents you from making enough to get by within considerable means, they should step in again and boost you along. That's what they're there for.

Yes, sometimes working 40 hours a week is like making the lame walk on their own - the government in this case should step in and give the old guy a walking stick. Sure it'd be quicker to give him a wheelchair and someone to push him around in it, but what of dignity? Self-respect? Freedom? And what of this person that's to live their days pushing a wheelchair? Give him his fishing rod and his walking stick, and he'll live life just like everyone else.

And as for Armco barriers. Have you ever driven, htr123? Have you driven outside of the city? The roads out of town are often poorly maintained compared to city streets, and being out of town, often there are mountain passes. Narrow roads. Slippery surfaces. Out of towners don't know how to properly drive these routes as they're not often taught. People often don't have the right kind of car or tyres for the conditions. Now, you put a Toyota Camry on a mountain pass, in the rain and fog, with a driver that communites to work and back each day. Given rain on already slippery, uneven surfaces, the chances of him sledging (understeering - this is a function of the CAR not the DRIVER) are high. He is going to go tumbling over that edge if he sledges.

Put a man in a Ford Falcon, or a Mustang, same foggy, rainy day...same place. He puts his foot down just a little, and that beast is going to oversteer. This again is a function of the car - it's not designed for these conditions. He is going to go nose-first into the side of the cliff. Or, if he tries and corrects the motion, it's going to flip the other way and he will FLY over the side of the cliff.

Enter my car. It's got sticky Toyo tyres on it with a nice, open tread. It is an AWD Subaru - it's designed for messy terrain. If it sledges, you ease off the gas and it snaps back. If it oversteers, you ease off the gas and it snaps back. It's a car that is designed for ALL conditions. It's rare to crash one of these unless you're doing stupid, stupid speeds. Even if someone hits you, the Subaru will wobble then regain control...the car that hit it will most likely spin out. This is the nature of the common drivetrains.

Not everyone has an AWD Subaru. The good ones are expensive.

Hence...I don't mind contributing to putting Armco barriers along gorges or mountain passes. Accidents happen because people's cars aren't suited to every terrain. A commuter that wants to go see his mother on the other side of the pass...he's gonna take his normal car. Now, if the Armco stops him from killing himself and several others because the car's not mechanically capable...then I'll contribute to that.

And of course you have your standard single-lane each way sort of country roads from town to town. Again, slippery roads...these are not often maintained. Most accidents and resulting deaths are head-on collisions. Some idiot may want to do 120km/h in an 80km/h zone and end up sliding wide on a corner and into oncoming traffic's lane...should a family on a holiday and the three cars behind them have to die because he's an idiot? A central median would damage the idiot's car, and the family that could have all perished would never have noticed. Again...if they use my tax dollars, my hard earned cash, to put up central medians...I applaud them. Innocents should not have to die because someone else can't drive, is stupid, or their car is not designed for the conditions.

i'm useless and can't do or stick to anything. even a tiny amount of stress and i'll shut down for
weeks without talking to anyone. i'm not anti social or have social hangups, but its like all the thoughts get stuck in my head, and i feel like my body is a puppet and my brain just controlls it.
i wish there was a way to get money to give to my parents to help out.
i'm in michigan by the way

i'd prefer to have never been born but thats not an option, but dont worry, the other way out is also not an option because i dont want to cause my parents any more burden

I'm in Michigan, too. Let me know if you need help applying for SSI.

Edit: I posted my first response before reading five pages of bickering. Our preschooler has SSI for autism. We use it to cover the expenses for therapies and things our insurance refuses to pay for. I used to have the same mindset as a lot of the people on this thread and looked down on those who used the government to pay their way through life. Now that we have a special needs kiddo of our very own, my mindset has changed. We've paid our share into the system and are pleased to find our tax dollars finally working for us.

Also, if you are under 18, your parents can apply for the Family Support Subsidy through Community Mental Health. That can also be used for therapies, expenses that arise for having to care for someone with ASD.
