if there IS a correlation, does it have anything to do with that art style or subject matter?
or is it like any other fandom, a form of obsession, which Aspies tend to be masters at^^;

I enjoy anime, manga and some other aspects of Japanese culture (not so much the food, though.)

I know a few on the spectrum who like anime, but a few NTs as well. I have noticed a bit of a correlation between having autism/Asperger's and liking anime on the Internet, though, but I wouldn't say it was a very strong one.

Years later, however, the sea calmed. I'm still on tranquil sea, but I'll never reach the Neurotypical Beach.

I think the internet in general has a strong correlation to autism ^^;

All told, I'm a pretty huge nerd, but for some reason I used to despise anime. Now, I only have a mild distaste for it, and jokingly give my anime-watching friends a hard time when they talk about it. I'm open to the idea of watching a select few but I doubt I will actually watch those any time soon. I've been pretty uninterested in watching TV shows, in general, for a while now. Anyways, I think the reason I hated it was partially because I was legitimately disturbed by an anime I happened to watch on Adult Swim when I was up late at night as a kid, and partially because I find the "norms" and tropes of both the artistic style and storytelling of contemporary anime to be off-putting or otherwise uninteresting.

Is it really that hard to draw a character with an actual nose?

There seems to be a huge correlation between folks with autism and being interested in anime, there also seems to be a large amount of people interested in anime with autism myself included! A large percentage of otakus are aspies it just seems fascinating how many are aspies as opposed to being NT! Usually the steriotype of autistics is they like anime or My Little Pony I fit in the anime category and dont care for my little pony but it seems though if your autistic your either an otaku or brony. :roll: Im simply an otaku with asd nothing more nothing less simply because i can relate to the characters an know what they are dealing with and also like the story line!

That's interesting, because I too also like anime. I find it so much better than most of the modern western entertainment we're subjected to in society. Plus, I think it's good that a lot of anime is mostly for adults, though of course, there are also a lot designed or adapted for younger viewers as well. In the western world, it's seen as a cartoon, and cartoons here give the impression of youth or childlike tendencies, but anime is more than all of that, it's like a hybrid I guess.
If that makes sense to anyone lol

Anime is typically a bit different than what many refer to as "cartoons". Traditionally, cartoons are typically seen as being specifcally for kids... stuff that adults grow out of. They're silly and goofy much of the time, or just kinda simplistic. There's exceptions of course, but they are rare.

Anime over in Japan is different; it's made for pretty much all audiences, with different shows (or mangas) appealing to different groups. There's kids' shows, sure... but I can think of quite a bunch of anime shows that kids DEFINITELY shouldnt watch. Not just because of sexual content, but also for other, often way more disturbing reasons. Heck, I can think of a couple that I had started to watch, but that a very short way into, I had to stop, because it was just way too much for me.

I typically dont use the word "cartoons" to refer to an anime series, because of these reasons making them very, very different from one another.

You ever seen the movie "Heavy Metal"? It's a cartoon movie but it's so not for kids.

Yes, I've seen it. Like I said, there's occaisional exceptions, they're just not at all the norm, or even close.

I've been meaning to watch it, but I haven't yet. Fritz the Cat, notorious for being the first X-rated animated film, is another one I want to see.

It's very.... strange. Or at least, I remember it being strange, and me not always being quite sure what was going on.

I think "anime fan" is too broad a concept. There's so much of it that's crap that I couldn't watch. Yet I do try to find good shows to watch. One of the main reasons I like anime is the writing. It's so much more courageous and inventive than western TV shows. Anime shows will kill off main characters like it's nothing but it isn't just for shock value, it really drives the narrative. Then there's the incredible level of world building. Like the neo-Japan of Psychopass or the MMORPG world's of Sword Art Online.

Depends on the genre. I like comedy like Sket Dance but I only like some action like Hunter x Hunter but I don't consider myself an otaku. I prefer cartoons and crime dramas.
Is Pokemon considered an anime? Because that was my childhood obsession. LOL :mrgreen: :mrgreen:
