Simplification is good - it's easier to keep a place clean if you don't have much stuff.
I'm a bit of a book hoarder, but apart from a few piles of books everything has a place.
I just have to take care to always put something straight back into its place after I use it, rather than just put it down anywhere. I wasn't always tidy like that, I had to learn how to be mindful about the state of the house, and not let myself leave things out after I've finished with them.

i remember growing up back in the 60s, we had a dishwasher, more often than not it never would get emptied after use, we'd just use it as a dish rack and get our clean dishes from there, and when we ran outta clean dishes, we'd load it again. that is prolly how i'd handle it if i were ever to get me a dishwasher.

I don't wash dishes. Everything into the dishwasher. Most households here have dishwashers. I cook a big dinner for my hungry family every night (6 to 8 dishes). After dinner one son loads the dishwasher, the other son would unload it later. Husband washes pots and pans in the sink. We might all be aspies but our kitchen stuff are shining clean.

When I first left my dad's I only took one of everything so that I wouldn't make loads of washing up like I'd done

at his house. It worked. I use a combo of reuse without washing, this is cups of tea (I don't have milk) snack plates

(old lids) knives, that sort of thing. When they get mucky I stick them in the washing up bowl. Then once or twice a

day I wash up everything in the bowl. Now that I eat less often it's usually only once. I usually do the washing up in

combo with meal prep for cooking and wash the veg in the same water. If the water's too yucky I change it but my

washing up gloves are already on and the bowl is empty (which it rarely is the rest of the time) so it's a good time

to do it. Also some of my things get washed then used for the start of the cooking then back in the same water

(only if still hot). This is very handy when you've few utensils. Necessity is the mother of invention lol.

I don't think I'd like a dishwasher; it's just added complication and where would I put it .

I still have boxes unopened from my move in 2008 too!
I moved an entire house into one room and it is heaped with stuff. Mostly paperwork and books, pictures I don't have enough walls for and more books with clothes hanging off the bookshelves as I don't have a wardrobe.

I do my washing up outside on a camping sink with water from a kettle in the shed because I can't cope with sharing a kitchen sink with my family because they like to leave a soup of scummy water full of dirty dishes in it as if soaking things in filthy water gets them clean. I can only cook if I get up early to sneak into the kitchen when the others aren't around and prepare something to go in the oven otherwise I eat cold food. I can't share space with them any more as they accuse me of being controlling if I ask them to respect my feelings.
