Yeah, you're right if you don't count the chance of the parents both having Aa, which is also 25%. So wouldn't that make it about 6.25%? I guess it would just keep getting smaller if you go up the family tree? I'm confused :/

It's tricky to count the parents if you don't know the grandparents (what's to stop an NT from having a HFA as a parent?)

For instance, for the parents:

I
AA x aa

Aa, Aa, Aa, Aa ----> 100% NT carrying autistic recessive gene

II
Aa x aa

Aa, Aa, aa, aa ----> 50% (it works)

III
Aa x Aa

AA, Aa, Aa, aa ----> 50% (it works)

it would be 25 % if both set of grandparents were like II or III.

I'm starting to confuse myself even. :?

I'm wondering if somebody who specializes in genetics can help us here.

I don't really specialize in the sense of having a degree, but...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punnett_square

This is what you were expressing, a Punnett square. There's a thorough diagram if you follow the link. It will also explain the concept to those who aren't exactly biology majors or degreed biologists.

My view is that if they are against eugenics - they have to reword that part of their goals. If they want to use the word "prevention" they have to make the context clear. Personally I would prefer it if they didn't use it at all. But I heard a rumour that they were actually challenged over that on their forum, but the thread was deleted. If the rumour is true that's pretty suspicious to me!

I'm not saying that they're against eugenics, but I just hadn't found anything on their site yet about "genetic removal" or the like.

The genetic math says about right. I have never bought the 1 in 150, that is just someone's example of the worst outcome. Other numbers, polling in England, with no science to back it, was 90% to 95% functioning in the world.

So for all people with some traits, Half-Aspies and less, about 10 per hundred.

This points to more than one gene. a better view might be it comes by eighths. With outcomes of 1, to 8, and 8 would put you in the 1 in 150.

2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 greatgrandparents, then 16, 32, 64, 128, which only covers 100 years, then 256, 512, 1024, in 1700AD. 2048, 4096, 8192, in 1600AD. so 64,000 ancestors from the time Columbus sailed. It was 1000 years from then back to Rome, about this time it becomes apparent we are all related, mostly several times over.

Life is an STD.

Top that off with cultural conditions, it did not matter on the farm, ranch, fur trappers, and it is said a lot of cowboys, loney life, good with animals, did not mind being alone for months.

Where does it show up, where there are standards, education, that makes everyone the same, and fails those who are not. Someone said, this is what 95% of children learn in the third grade, so lets use it to make life hell for the other 5%.

That did not work out because they were free to leave, so that changed, it became school jail, attend or be punished, attend and be punished, we own you. They needed examples to show the power of gang warfare, for if the 5% left, they had to screw each other.

Leave their sorry asses behind, they call the police on you for not being there to give a hard time, so now it is uniforms and guns, the sacred law, and they have to make a living screwing people too.

So that brings us up to this era, for $50 I can get a crack head to kill you. If I ever see you in my neighborhood, I will count my money.

You kick too many people out of your perfect club, they got to go somewhere, and survive, no matter how hard you make it. Now it is the economy, they will starve people and put them in the streets, where they can arrest them for being in the streets and make money off of it.

How can people go hungry in a world full of healthy dumb people? Non smokers taste best.

The system always creates it's own demise, it does not matter what system, all make enemies, make enough, no more system.

Homeland Security is not about outsiders, it is the system protecting it's self from the people who live here. They have made enemies. The government is a bunch of whores that sell favors for money.

In a Democracy, the majority of the voters have an IQ of less than 100.

I propose we elect the Commandant of the Marines Dictator for ten years, with the power to appoint State Governors, and shoot lobbyists. The Greeks had to do it, the Romans also, and it bought them another hundred years of good government.

You won't find that - because it will reveal their true intent and they know it. They are typical politicians, hiding behind the good stuff (ie the research and support). That's the trouble, Selo - you have to look a lot further than just their words to find the truth. Words or comments with multiple meanings and context can garble the message. Garbled messages are something that my experience tells me that us Aspies don't cope with very well. I've seen many Aspies get a message wrong and react accordingly (and end up making a fool of themselves). I used to do that a lot. Not as much now and if I do I quickly seek to clarify the matter so the message either side (whether it be me or the other person) is understood correctly.

I just wonder if that's what happened to us?

But yeah, after all that people have pointed out, I'm still not convinced that autism is genetic.

Selo, it may or may not be genetic, but there is that possibility. So many diseases or disorders can be inherited, yet some people may get them via environmental factors or just plain bad luck. Like diabetes. My wife is more susceptible to getting it because both grandparents had it, parents had it, uncles, aunts, and many cousins. It's in the family. However, look at all the people who are getting diabetes without the genetic predisposition because they are overweight. Look at all the kids who are getting it. So, for some it's genetic. But, for others...

The same goes for cancer. A cancer gene has been found in many women with breast cancer. Then, you have women who get it and are smokers and have taken birth control. That type of thing. Enviornment.

I think there is more than one kind of Autism and it's not "gotten" the same way by all. But, this much I know...there are very few on this earth who can claim to be 100% cured or releaved of all its symptoms.

As for Autism Speaks, they may not be as evil as you all think - there is a big chunk of their site with info on helping autistic children cope and succeed in an NT society, including sections on their adulthood as autistics. I'm poking around there now and I have yet to see anything mentioning eugenics as the cure they are searching for.

They've got a cool site and do good things for the Autism Community. I ignore that eugenics argument. It's ridiculous. As I've said on other threads, if some don't like them, they should start their own organizatios or support those that cater to their needs instead of ragging on this one all the time like they've got nothing better to do. Some of their research funding may one day lead to something that really has an impact on Autism and changes the lives of those coming up.
