So, this forum doesn't have any rules against resurrecting 4 year old threads....
Should it? Just because a topic was made several years ago does not mean it still not interesting. Sometimes people stop communicating for mayh different reasons...I have only been on here a bit over a year, but I intend to go back to many of the threads I participated on. There should maybe be a rule, though, against people starting too many new threads, but I would have to think that over.
The reason I came to write on this thread and saw your message is to say that I have no idea if Ten Bundy was autistic or not, but I did recently watch an hour long special on the unibomber (because it was very late at night and there was nothing else to watch) where it was mentioned several times that he may have been autistic. I don't know if this thread is where I want to discuss it, but an autistic person's who has what I will call "the bitters" for various reasons, and perhaps even good reasons, can possibly lock into and develop a special interest around these bitters, not to imply that most autistic people do this. I realized this just now when I was thinking about an autistic woman I know from my job whose literal specialty is breaking certain laws around public vending of various products and then taking people to court and even stalking people who are trying to hold her accountable. This is literally her specialty aside from breaking certain kinds of laws around public vending because she feels she should be exempt from these laws and her whole life revolves around it. From this perspective, in an odd instance, an autistic person could technically develop a special interest of being charming in order to get back at people. Not trying to say this applies here, but it offers a different perspective.
And I do not know if labeling various people as autistic is even such a good idea and it does cast aspersion on autistic people in general and create a cartoon view in the mind of the public, but in terms of understanding how autism might work, it could be very valuable to a person studying himself and even ultimately this kind of greater understanding autism could lead to a beneficial shift in public perception..
Imo the public perception about autism is greatly warped and incidents such as with Adam Lanza have created a damaging cartoon picture and definitely are making an imprint upon public perception of autism, and I do not see that decreasing at all, which is too bad, and I can see why people would want to fight it, and yes, education is the best tool, but in this regard, suppression of idea content around enquiry is not a good idea at all and will only backfire and tend to further cement in the mind of the public this wrong image.
And I know this thread is on google, but almost no one will see it, as almost no one would even be researching thistopic except a very few people. And what if they were?
