I have a general problem with relaxing, so trying to fall asleep can be a mess. It's tricky, getting your thoughts together and just relaxing. ._. My sleep schedule these past few nights has been especially hectic, though that's not so much Asperger's-linked as it is weather-linked.

As a child I was a good sleeper from the time I was born, and slept through the night easily. Also, when things got too much for me I would literally drop to the floor and sleep wherever that happened to be for a couple of hours.

I still do the latter although I tend to be aware enough to go find a corner or a chair now - I am beginning to think this is shutdown manifested as sleep - but as a result I am known for being able to sleep anywhere.

For the last few years I have regularly had great difficulty getting to sleep and staying asleep during the night.
I also struggle with going to bed - I don't know why. I think it's a transition issue.

Sleep, it seems, is a bit of a minefield for me.

Exactly this. Every once in a while I get desperate and skip a 'nights' sleep and go to bed early the following night. It has never worked.

Lately, I'm managing to improve on my sleep schedule somewhat. I sort of made an agreement with myself to think making breakfast is fun, or having a morning routine is fun. I make a big deal out of breakfast now, whereas before I hardly ever ate breakfast. This self-delusion gets me out of bed in the mornings, which used to be near impossible.
At night I set an alarm to remind me I need to go to bed. Unfortunately, I just shut this off and think "I'll go in a minute" and continue to do whatever it is I was doing.

Sleep with autism is a disaster. Problems with it have nearly killed me. Because when you don't sleep right, everything gets out of whack...

I have both insomnia and hypersomnia. Of course they don't affect me at the same time. There are times where I sleep 18 hours a day due to my medicine. Loxapine. I hate taking that pill. For awhile I had to take it in the morning and it knocked me out an additional 3-4 hours a day. That is on top of the 12-14 hours a night. I used to take 2 pills a night and one in the morning. After complaining about the side effect to my psychiatrist she said I can take 3 at night. I had a blood test to see if its still in my blood stream in the after noon. When I am about to have a psychotic break my sleep goes the opposite way. I get insomnia. I sleep 1-2 hours a night before a complete breakdown. I am already on sleeping pills and even that doesn't make me sleep and same with my Loxapine. Loxapine is an anti psychotic. An older anti psychotic. So in the end my sleep is all over the place. Either too much or too little, hardly anything in between. By the way I am always tired no matter how much sleep I get.

My mom said the same about me and had to give me sleeping pills before I was one-year-old so that she could get some sleep. Of course that was before she learned I was intolerant to most formulas. But even after switching to a tolerable formula I still wouldn't nap.

I don't know if I have a circadian rhythm disorder, but I have been keeping a sleep diary to determine if that could be it or if my sleeping pattern is caused by something else. Something else is winning so far.

I lose track of time easily and have issues with ocd as well that cause me to not want to sleep until I finish whatever I am doing. I also enjoy the peace and quiet (if there is any to be had) at night and feel less anxious at night as well.

I know when I was young I had a 8pm bedtime, but couldn't sleep until about midnight. I would lay in bed and think and imagine stories or design houses. But I would get up naturally at 8am and watch cartoons. As I got older I became more and more nocturnal. In high school that meant going to sleep at 3am and waking at about noon.

Now my sleep schedule is random but cyclic. But I generally go to bed after the sun comes up.

To deal with it I have stayed up all night many, many times to "reset." But it is only a band-aid. I am generally sleep-deprived when I have to go anywhere, and have always had problems with working as I am constantly late. As I have gotten older though I find I cannot as easily go without sleep or with too little sleep.

I'm the same. At the moment i'm sleeping fine (I think it's to do with my medication) however when I was younger I had insomnia.

Any time I drink caffeine I end up skipping a nights sleep. I went 40 hours straight without sleep a couple of day/night cycles ago. Simple solution is simple but I like drinking it. :(

Sounds like the medication is balancing things out. :)

Usually I just have a messed up sleeping pattern, and all my life I remember having really bad insomnia.

Ever since I got put on fluoxetine, though, my sleeping has improved dramatically. If I try hard I can achieve a regular sleeping pattern. :)

I have Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and I usually get no more than 4 hours of sleep a night. I might wake up 2 to 3 times or not, or it'll take me a few hours to go back to sleep because of the moving and continuous mind racing. I feel extremely drowsy during the day, and appear to be 'lost', but I've been like this for so long, I don't know if I want the surgery to change it. I like being the usual half-sleepy person that I can be at times...
