I just panicked when I tried to ride a bike as a child. Now I'm 45, can't ride a bike, can't drive.

I cannot recall having any trouble riding my bike (apart from the occasional falling off of it when I was a kid). I've been doing it almost all of my life, well over 20 years, so I have no trouble riding a bike these days.

I'm also Dutch, and pretty much everyone can ride a bike here. So it's either special genes or more motivation/pressure to learn it.

My dad got me a bike when I was 7 or 8. It took me forever to learn, and I never quite got the hang of it. I couldn't go more than 40 yards without having to put my foot down, and I got in crashes all the time. My dad would watch in shock and horror as I would head straight for a tree and smack right into it. He said that I would freeze up and that was it. I guess any other kid would've been able to avoid the tree.

I gave it up after age 11, after one too many wrecks. I just kinda said "f*ck it." It felt like if I were to persist, that I would get myself killed, and that the underlying problem was apparently never going to get better.

I'm 33 now and I haven't touched a bike since, and I have never had a driver's license. I've been thinking about getting a bike again; I figure if I can get the hang of that, it would give me more confidence in my struggle to be able to drive. Kind of an 'intermediate step' if you will. Actually, I've been thinking about getting a unicycle for a long time now. A circus performer told me that it's actually safer than a bike, as far as falling off of it goes. It's just that it takes a long time to learn (at least a month for your typical able-bodied NT adult in their late 20s early 30s). Now, if I can learn how to ride a unicycle, a car would be a piece of cake! Yes? No? :?

That's my story.

I learned how to ride a bike when I was about 6. I forgot how long it took me to learn how to ride it, but I was very happy when I learned that :D My parents had found a large cement area that was pretty empty so I wasn't afraid to hit people and things. My dad pushed me and told me that he was going to let go and I rode it well when he did :) I still kind of like bicycling.

It took me a real long time to learn how to ride a bicycle. I think I was 10 or 11 when i finally learned how to use the breaks. I remember running into the garage door a few times just so i could stop the bicycle.

Took me until I was 10 to learn. I was too afraid of falling over and when I tried to learn when I was younger than that, I'd be able to do it until I realized my mom wasn't holding the bike anymore.

Eventually, though, I figured it out. Now I bike all over the place because it's a good cheap form of transportation :D

I had a difficult time learning to ride a bike when was a boy. I crashed frequently. However, I persisted in learning and now I still enjoy riding my bike at 47. I am especially enjoying riding now here in Indiana because the weather seems to have bypassed April and May.

At about 8 or so...I remember feeling very unbalanced and having an immense fear of tipping.

Yes, I had major problems with learning on how to ride a bike. I could ride it fine with training wheels but not without training wheels, I was too scared. Obviously I stopped riding a bike altogether once I got too old to be riding around with training wheels.

I love the bike!
Because I HATE public transport
And I ride in constant tension and not fast.

But the rollers, skateboards, skates, skies are almost inaccessible to me - I'm like a cow on ice
