By that logic, blindness isn't a disability unless you really want to see. What if there are some blind people who are happy with their blindness?
Similarly, deaf is deaf, but there's a very large "deaf culture" wherein they believe that deafness is not a disability. There are implants and such that can help many of them hear, but they refuse to get them because just as "being an Aspie is just another way of being," "being deaf is just another way of being." I'm sure there are probably a handful of blind folk who feel the same way.
