I have literally 2 friends. 3 if you count my Husband, but he's more than just a friend.
My friends work long hours and are exhausted every day. So I don't talk to them much. My husband is away working and commuting longer than he's at home.
I'd like to have more friends, but it's a double edged sword with me because I've had so many people take advantage and I'm so bad at reading people, social cues, and intentions that I figure I'm safer if I just don't try to make new ones. Gets lonely.

UGH GOD I miss online gaming. My PC went to the everlasting data farm long ago and I've got too many bills to buy another that's gaming worthy. I envy you.

Yeah I'm right there with you LittleCoyoteKat, I sorely miss my MMORPGs because my computer crapped out too and no money to buy a new one to keep up. I miss the guild chatter in Ventrillo that I always used to hear and although I was too timid to join in I loved hearing the banter. I think about it all the time and I get really sad when I see an advertisement for any new expansion pack for any one of the games I used to play. It's a source of great sadness for me.

Just wondering if age will give me any wisdom here.... The older I get, the more I realize that I suck at making and keeping friends. Social contacts as well. I suck socially. Across the board.

Does getting older make you realize that you are happier without friends or social contacts (or very few) or is it just the opposite?

Interested in feedback no matter your age... :? 8)

Hi, 36 here and I am happy despite not having any close friends. I am currently assessing if maybe I should at least have one or two friends though. Maybe someone to vent to and chatter about interests with :) and to listen to them vent and chatter about their interests.

As far as getting older making you realize anything... I can tell you, don't be fooled into thinking that age will fix this sort of feeling for you. It takes wisdom and self-acceptance. If you are always actively soul-searching and trying to understand yourself better and determine what you really want or don't want in life then time will eventually be on your side.... however if you're just waiting for life to change your mind without working to change your own mind then it's likely that it wont change on its own.

Try assessing your life to see if you're happy without friends... if it turns out that its OK for you not to have them then remind yourself of that regularly. Eventually you'll be able to convince yourself. It takes active effort to become more wise as you age :)

:( I'm sorry. I try not to think about it and just play one of my consoles instead. I tried a bunch, but my favorite MMO was LOTRO back when it first came out. I was a beta tester, which was super cool. It was great for a couple of years. I didn't like the changes they made to attract a bigger audience, it started to feel too much like WoW. Which, if I wanted WoW, I'd play it. It bummed me out. I haven't played it in SOOOOOOOOO long. I think it's been probably about 10 years now. :(

I would like some friends, but I'm too socially incompetent to do so sufficiently. I'm happiest when I'm not trying to get something I can't have.

Social incompetence would probably be the title of my autobiography were I write one.
