You can be happy with who you are, but that doesn't take away the struggles faced by people with AS. Some people may be happy to embrace the "hermit" view of someone with AS, but there are many people with AS who want to have meaningful relationships but struggle. Therapy can help, but can't cure. It can put them closer to a level playing field, but can't always put them there.
You said imagine if the tables where turned, but they aren't. That's nothing more than a thought experiment. We cannot ignore reality.
And then there are the people who aren't functional. I've met a few of them. They have no hope in life. 20 year olds with autism so bad they can't be toilet trained, can't communicate, can't do anything except exist.
