Yes, I've seen it. Like I said, there's occaisional exceptions, they're just not at all the norm, or even close.
Heavy Metal was the 80's, and Fritz the Cat was the 70's.
American artists and film producers will bravely venture into animated cartoons for grown ups once every few decades. But in Japan there has been a whole industry of comic books, and animated cartoon movies, not-necessarily-for-children that has existed forever. And it has the same range that live action stuff has: for kids, family stuff for grown ups, to hardcore sex/violence just for grown ups. Or thats my understanding of it.
You might have heard of the Japanese comic book character "Rape Man". Not exactly the same target audience as "My Little Pony", or "Dora the Explorer".
