I watch and enjoy both anime and MLP. I enjoy anime because I feel that some of the stories are well done and that the animation is unique. For MLP, I can relate to characters like Fluttershy and Maud Pie, find good and enjoyment in almost every character, especially the Mane 6, and like the moral messages the show promotes.

Tomoko is definatly Autistic lol!

I haven't watched that show in forever. Tomoko is definitely one of my fave anime characters, up there with Black Jack. :3

I've always been fascinated by animation and comics and since my diagnosis I've wondered whether there is a connection between this and my (mild) autism - I wonder if the exaggerated expressions and vivid colours are triggering something that I don't get from live action.

When I was a teenager my heroes included people like Tex Avery and Ray Harryhausen when most of my peers idolised footballers of the period

That being said I'm not a particular fan of anime - outside of the Studio Ghibli classics I haven't found much to appeal to me - so many if the story lines are specifically aimed at teenage school children that it's hard to relate to them. Anime wasn't around when I was growing up.

My love for the medium hasn't gone - I saw Big Hero 6 recently and fell in love with Baymax (he's about the same same shape and size as me )

I wish the technology to create my own animations had existed (or been affordable) when I was young.

Ah well ...

I have asperger syndrome, a few ASD's and part of ADHD, the only activities i do are watch anime, play games for about 14 hours a day (average out of a typical week) and go and university to study Mathematics, i suppose many people would say that i have "No life" it is a life it is just a different life to what most people would like but i am happy with it

obviously I watched Madoka Magica.

I've never understood the stigma/correlation. It seems like it contradicts the flagship traits of ASD of being overly grounded in objective, logical thinking.

I've never been able to get into pure fantasy books, movies, videogames etc... Even as a sci-fi/horror junkie, the things I'm into seem to always have to have at least one foot planted in real world plausible scenarios

Because of this I now have a new anime I'm about to start watching...

Heavy Metal was the 80's, and Fritz the Cat was the 70's.

American artists and film producers will bravely venture into animated cartoons for grown ups once every few decades. But in Japan there has been a whole industry of comic books, and animated cartoon movies, not-necessarily-for-children that has existed forever. And it has the same range that live action stuff has: for kids, family stuff for grown ups, to hardcore sex/violence just for grown ups. Or thats my understanding of it.


You might have heard of the Japanese comic book character "Rape Man". Not exactly the same target audience as "My Little Pony", or "Dora the Explorer".
