Where in other cultures they are prospective Shaman, and are trained to become healers.
Very good point. Only in western cultures are beliefs in spirits or aliens seen as mental illness.
Yep, that's totally true about western cultures----except for "Indians" (Native Americans). I'm part Native American, and they believe in a TON of spirits----or, at least, my Cherokee ancestors, did.

Yeah, I've read about some of those people. Do they call them "Bush People", or are they a separate people?
Do you know any of the "legends", you could share with us?

That's interesting. My grandmother used to have this 'spirit friend'; she said he was a large Native American man that she called Big Bear. She didn't know his real name but he was 'passed down' from her own mother. Anyway, he would only appear when something was about to happen. One example was, she and my grandfather were driving down a dark road and she saw Big Bear standing beside the road. She yelled, 'stop the car' and they squealed to a stop at a railroad track just as the train was coming across (there were no signals at the crossing). They would never have made it across, but would have been hit by the train.
She told me some other stories but my memory on this is not great. I do remember her saying that once she looked up the stairway in her house and he was standing at the top....but don't recall what the reason was that time.

Well now, that's REALLY interesting!! Why did your grandmother have this "friend"----did she know him while he was living? If not, that's incredibly WILD!! I don't know if I've ever heard of "unrelated" spirits appearing to people. Was your grandmother Indian?

I'm really not sure of the heritage of my grandmother. I know she had a dark complexion, almost black eyes and very black hair but who knows? Could have been French as far as I know. My grandfather was German.
Anyway, the story is that this 'spirit friend' was with her mother for many years, protecting her. When she got old she told her daughter, my grandmother, 'I give you Big Bear to protect you.' And as far as I know he was with her until her death. Not sure where he went after that. It's an odd story I know but I heard it throughout my childhood and I know she believed it completely.

WOW, that's just TOO COOL for words!!
Well, I gotta go to bed, now----it's going-on 2am, here.... Good Night----or, morning----or, wherever you are----it's been GREAT talkin' to ya!!

The indigenous people in Australia call themselves by many tribal names. There was once 700 languages spoken before European colonization. Examples include Kooris, Nungahs and Wurradjeri. But they are referred to as aboriginals. About 95% live in Australian cities.
There are many beautiful spirit stories, as I am not indigenous I feel it's improper for me to select any in particular.
When I'm in that twilight area just as you're starting to wake up from sleep but still not quite lucid, I'll dream about a person. One whom I've not seen for several years and every time, within a couple of days, I'll bump into them.
This has happened so many times over the years, I just can't see any explanation.
Another time, I decided to look on the Internet for a childhood friend I hadn't seen since I was about 12 (I was 45 at the time I tried to find him). He wasn't on the Internet but a few days later, I was informed by my Mother that he'd died and it was around the same time I decided to look him up!
Yeah, I know wha'cha mean. When I first got here I started a thread asking if any other ASDers had, like, a sixth sense about things, or some feeling like that. I've had dreams that have come true, TOO, like what you described. Also, one time, at work, this man walked in, and I thought: "Good GOD, he looks like a child molester!!" LOL I don't know what, on earth (literally), made me think that----what does a child molester look like, anyway. Then, very soon after, it was on TV, that he had been arrested for child molestation!!
Someone on here said something about: "Why would an Aspie BELIEVE things like this?"----or, something like that..... Well, what if..... You know how they say, like, a blind person's OTHER senses are heightened----maybe, to compensate for what they're "lacking"? Well, what if some ASDers have some kind of sixth sense to make-up for the things in which WE are "lacking"?
Also, I've heard LOTS of times that, like, "things are out there", we just have to be "still", to "feel" them----or, "hear" them, or whatever. I'm thinking that could, very well, BE!!
Gosh I love this. Thank you so much.
The comparison with blind people and other heightened senses is also awesome. Something like that had crossed my mind before, even before I knew I had AS but when I knew I was somehow different, like a Highly Sensitive Person or something (Dr Elaine N Aron); and I knew that my sensitivity played a big part in why I had developed such a debilitating depression due to having been bullied at school; it did also cross my mind then that it was the very same sensitivity that made me more vulnerable to mental illness that also makes me a bit more intuitive than the average person.
My problem has consistently in life been trying to be 'a good girl' and do what people tell me to do literally. So I've really fought my spiritual essence. I was brought up by atheist parents, have never been part of church, or even religious studies at school as my parents opted me out due to their atheism. But even since early childhood I would every now and again observe something -- what Jung would call a synchronisity. And then when I started to 'collaborate' with the force, these synchronisities have happened more and more, to the point that if you took my life and looked at it from an earthly perspective, and seen how 'far' I've gotten with it, it would just blow your mind, it blows MY mind every time I think about it. But as Neale Donald Walsh put it in Coversations with God, 'to know God you must be out of your mind', ie out of the mental chatter, and into the world of the more intangible, feeling/intuition/peace/awareness/mindfulness and suchlike.
I also feel strongly that my mission is to help the humankind and the world to the best of my abilities, and I am hoping I can keep climbing up my promising career ladder onto a place where I can really, severely, be of use. I truly feel that that is the final goal for me, and whenever I derive from it and become more egotistic in focusing on chasing accolades etc I simply can't go on like that for long but end up having a total breakdown and not get out of bed for a week or something. This is the 'spiritual perspective' that I have on my aspie shutdown periods; I also have an earthly perspective for it.
The most spiritual person that I know personally (and who is coincidentally massively successful in all earthly areas, ie money, fame, public recognition) told me, when I was oscillating between an earthly and a spiritual perspective, that 'Don't they say the highest form of intelligence is to hold two opposing thoughts in the mind at the same time and hold them both to be true, simultaneously'. Hearing that was a turning point of sorts. I've since found out about how Paradox is perceived in Jungian terms. Reality is a paradox, the only way we can approach reality through the faculty of our minds is through paradox.
But we don't just have the faculty of our minds. There's more to us than our minds - the rational/logical/thinking mind of ours and the constantly chattering monkey mind of ours. There's intuition. There's bodily awareness. There's emotions. There's probably many more faculties but those just came to my mind now.
Since I started meditating last year, oh my god have things taken off. I do meditation, free association writing and some forms of art therapy almost daily - I try and be strict about this now because it's the only way I can move forward from my debilitating depressions (which as I said I believe I have, from a spiritual perspective, because I deviate from the path of my divine calling to help the planet and its living creatures).
So, yes, I would absolutely agree from personal experience that to sit still is to get to know God. (And write. And do art. Anything that gets you 'out of your mind' into whatever other faculties exist. I mean, even exercise probably does that for many people, as it gets you into the body. Our western lives are dominated by the mind in an almost totalitarian way and we must guard ourselves against the errors that result from this, by working on our other faculties every day - this is what I have found to be true up to this point anyway.)
Love and light to you my fellow beings from another planet!

And let's not forget that some Aspies believe/d they came from or belonged to another planet.
Also, it's a definite fact that many of us can relate to animals on a much higher level than NT's.
That's true. I remember as a child (1960's), that I would lay in my bed at night, watching out the window and waiting for the ship to come take me back to my home planet. I just figured, in my childish way, that since I am so different from everyone else I must be on the wrong planet. The ship never came and here I am. But, fifty years later, every now and then I'll still look out the window at the stars and wonder how come they couldn't find me.
You sound like you could be my twin (only I was in the 70's).
I couldn't work out if I was left here for safety, for punishment or to learn something. I remember looking up at the sky and thinking, "When are you coming to pick me up?"
I also still look up occasionally and wonder, and I'm now 47.
This is another example of Synchronisity.
I am staying at a friend's parents' house which is currently empty, and I've not stayed in this room before. I saw a bookshelf and one book stood out to me. Kurt Cobain biography by C. Sandford. I've never been a Nirvana fan although I have always felt a connection with their music when I hear it; but I have not ever bought a Nirvana album or set out to listen to them. Anyways, I open the book and the author starts telling about Kurt's childhood where he was convinced he was from another planet. And then the next morning (ie this), I come here and see that you people have written about this in an uncannily similar way.
Let me quote direct from the book as it's here with me right now: "Cobain's other* fantasy was that he was an alien, sent to earth to study the natives and not subject to the same morals or values as humans. "That one took him twenty years to shake off", says Beverley**."
*The first fantasy was that he had an imaginary ball of energy, like an imaginary childhood companion.
**Beverley is Kurt's cousin who diagnosed Kurt with 'clearly bipolar' but I am convinced at this point since yesterday that Kurt was on the autistic spectrum - if you doubt me do read the book's descriptions of his childhood and how he couldn't get along with others at school and how he withdrew to himself. It really rings alarm bells at this point, especially as I was nearly misdiagnosed with bipolar but self-diagnosed as AS and since this week have had the official confirmation that my self diagnosis was right: I'm on the spectrum.
Personally, I have had this feeling too. I always felt like Alice in Wonderland. And when in my teens I heard Subterranean Homesick Alien by Radiohead, which uncannily talks about this very same topic -- please do google its lyrics -- I would spend every summer night one summer chain-smoking at my parents' porch looking up at the stars and longing for the aliens to find me just like it was explained in that song.
Please do me a favour and google the lyrics to that song, and if you have time do look it up on youtube so you can hear it. It has been a very special song to me for over 15 years now and I would feel great pleasure if I could share that feeling with someone.
There is so much we don't understand, perhaps, one day we will.
OMG, regarding "the presence" thing: When my aunt (mother-figure who had helped raise me) died, for about 5 months afterwards, I felt a very heavy presence above my left shoulder. You know how you think somebody is watching you, and you turn-around, and sure-enough, someone is waving to you to "come here"? Well, it was sort-of like that kind of feeling, except kind-of "heavy"-like, on my shoulder. Well, so I didn't know if it was my aunt, or if it was supposed to be an angel, or something, but I started, sort-of, talking to it, every once-in-awhile, telling it I was alright----then, like I said, about 5 months later, one day "it" was just no longer there.
Have you ever heard stories about people, like, while they're being operated-on, they (their soul, I guess) rises above the operating table, and they look-down, on themselves, and the procedure, and everything? What do you think about THAT?
Also, I have a book by Victor Hugo, and he said something like that he believes people's soul leaves their body while they sleep, at night. I don't know if I believe THAT (a couple of times, when I've had to get-up, during the night, to go to the bathroom, I've thought of his words, and thought: "Wait, how does that 'work'----can I walk-around, if my soul's not in my body?"); but, again, it's something that makes ya go "Hmmm....."
Great post. I sometimes get lucky like narrowly escaping accidents, things occasionally go right for me and I say "Thank you" because it feels like I'm being protected in some situations. Perhaps it's my Dad? Perhaps it's nothing but it sure feels like something at times!
I'm not sure about out of body experiences. That one's still on the debate floor for me.
When you sleep LOL
Perhaps it is your Dad watching out for you. Just as in the post about my own Mother, I've come to firmly believe that the death of the body is not the end of the consciousness. And, that a connection remains between people. I think that in the future humans will look back at us and say, 'how could they not have known the truth?'.
But, we still have a lot of growing to do before that happens. We are barely out of the tribal mindset and the idea of Oneness (one planet, one people) is hardly a dot on the horizon. And after that? One Consciousness connecting everything/everyone in the Universe (which pretty much would explain Everything). Personally, I'm doubtful that humans will evolve that far. But that's just my opinion.
When I'm in that twilight area just as you're starting to wake up from sleep but still not quite lucid, I'll dream about a person. One whom I've not seen for several years and every time, within a couple of days, I'll bump into them.

Some really good thoughts here...I enjoyed reading your post!
I think it's possible to be both logical/scientific and spiritual/emotional at the same time. Humans are complicated. Some might prefer to make decisions using one way or another, but most of us have many preferences and thoughts/feelings that are hard to separate. Just think about the NT category of the MBTI types. They're supposed to be smart and logical, but each of the qualifying person need to use their intuition a lot. It's not weird at all for a scientist to use his/her "feelings", "hunch" or "sixth sense". I know many of them. I think it would be really weird to just accept one path, one way and never for a moment have a doubts and pondered about other ways.

Gosh I love this. Thank you so much.
I know----I LOVE it, TOO----you're quite welcome!!
.....it did also cross my mind then that it was the very same sensitivity that made me more vulnerable to mental illness that also makes me a bit more intuitive than the average person.
Yes, I agree----I DEFINITELY feel that my sensitivities are what allowed me to be so intuitive. I've always seen things from "another angle" to everyone else----even ASDers.
And then when I started to 'collaborate' with the force, these synchronisities have happened more and more, to the point that if you took my life and looked at it from an earthly perspective, and seen how 'far' I've gotten with it, it would just blow your mind, it blows MY mind every time I think about it.
Yeah, I think I know what you mean..... I've had someone ask me, more than ONCE: "How can you believe in God, when so many bad things have happened to you?" (meaning that that should be proof, right THERE, that God does NOT exist.) My answer has always been: "Well, cuz I'm still here, to talk about it!"
But as Neale Donald Walsh put it in Coversations with God, 'to know God you must be out of your mind', ie out of the mental chatter, and into the world of the more intangible, feeling/intuition/peace/awareness/mindfulness and suchlike.
Yep, I feel that goes-back to what I was saying about: "be still and listen". Also, like..... When I pray----like, I might read something on here, and pause, and send-up a prayer for the poster----NOTHING else EXISTS, but my "talk" with GOD----the TV'll be on, my laptop, there's hollerin' in the street, maybe, my exhaust fan is running (I use that as, like, a "white noise" machine), etc.----so, I'm "stepping-out" of all of that, and "being" with God----HOWEVER momentarily!!
I also feel strongly that my mission is to help the humankind and the world to the best of my abilities.....
Yep, you may very well BE A "chosen one". I believe God has given all of us gifts, and chosen "paths", and it's WONDERFUL when we "see" / accept, those things.
Oh, definitely!! For instance, I believe in God----but, I ALSO see how "the big bang theory" (NOT the TV show, obviously LOL), and "evolution" could have taken place. Some people are like: "How can you believe, BOTH?" Well, I just happen to believe that if either occurred, God had a hand in it. People, so often, want to make things so, like, "finite"----"It is God"----"No, it's SCIENCE"-----"No, it's GOD"----well, who the frig do you think "invented" SCIENCE? I TRULY don't see why it can't be BOTH!!
But we don't just have the faculty of our minds. There's more to us than our minds - the rational/logical/thinking mind of ours and the constantly chattering monkey mind of ours. There's intuition. There's bodily awareness. There's emotions. There's probably many more faculties but those just came to my mind now.
Yeah, I've often heard people to describe / define / whatever spirituality as the "connection of mind, body, and spirit"----MY definition just also happens to include God.
Yes, I feel it's wise for us to use ALL of our "levels of being"----ALL of our gifts, etc.
So, yes, I would absolutely agree from personal experience that to sit still is to get to know God. (And write. And do art. Anything that gets you 'out of your mind' into whatever other faculties exist. I mean, even exercise probably does that for many people, as it gets you into the body. MAN, didju say a MOUTHFUL, right there!! Again, I feel that goes-back to what we were discussing, before..... Everything is NOT, just "this or that".
Love and light to you my fellow beings from another planet!
And, to YOU, as well!!
Oh, I've also thought Kurt Cobain could've been an Aspie!!

Subterranean Homesick Alien
The breath of the morning I keep forgetting
The smell of the warm summer air
I live in a town where you can't smell a thing
You watch your feet for cracks in the pavement
Up above aliens hover
Making home movies for the folks back home
Of all these weird creatures who lock up their spirits
Drill holes in themselves and live for their secrets
They're all uptight, uptight
Uptight, uptight
Uptight, uptight
I wish that they'd swoop down in a country lane
Late at night when I'm driving
Take me on board their beautiful ship
Show me the world as I'd love to see it
I'd tell all my friends but they'd never believe me
They'd think that I'd finally lost it completely
I'd show them the stars and the meaning of life
They'd shut me away but I'd be alright, alright
I'm alright, alright
I'm just uptight, uptight
Uptight, uptight
Uptight, uptight
Uptight, uptight
Uptight
