Oh, to be honest I didn't know it was that large of a problem, I restrict myself to this site which provides all the help I need if I have any trouble with my life. Although, a lot of people who are new members tend to share the "AS is better" viewpoint, that's something I noticed a while back.

I think something that happens is that people do not distinguish the condition Asperger Disorder that appears in diagnostic manuals from the possible neurological difference that is superior in some respects (while being deficient in others).

So, maybe I am this Aspie neurological type and it gives me all these uber superpowers (whatever they may be). This is great and I could potentially be the next mutant superpower, BUT with this wiring comes the problem that during my development the brain had to compensate and maybe has not quite got it perfect. This leads to all kinds of real world problems that, if they are more than what myh superpowers can compensate for leads to me having difficulty functioning in my daily life which then leads to having this diagnosable condition known as AS.

If I am being rude and inconsiderate, missreading facial expressions, having a breakdown or whatever because of it - THAT is a problem. Its not a difference (although it may be my difference that caused it) and its certainly not an ADVANTAGE.
On the other hand, if I have all these mental superpowers but manage to not have the weaknesses then I have won the genetic lottery. I have a neurological difference, but then I would not have AS. Certainly in no way can AS be an excuse for behaving like an ass. Maybe a more interesting/difficult question would be at what point somebody would call themselves "Aspie", but I think it is clear that if you are AS your luck was perhaps mixed and you somehow might have lost more than you gained in the deal. Still, we are all more fortunate than some who cannot be here to argue over this matter and debate the relative merits of their "condition".

Good explaination, I just don't see how breakdowns and stimming can be superior. I certainly don't have any "superpowers" and I doubt anybody else here does either. I like some aspects of AS but there are many more that I don't. I don't enjoy it when I try to talk to my friends but have a breakdown after I talk to them.

If you know any, what are the sites where these "AS is better people" belong? I don't know any because WP is the only Autism website that I use.

I suppose it was rather amusing.. But do you know what ISN'T amusing? Your avatar. It creeps me out, I don't know why either, but something about it is just... evil.

 MUAHAHAHAHA

It's from a show called the gogs, an animated comedy about a caveman family. The show itself is really funny it isn't creepy at all.

AFF/aspies for freedom, biggest bunch of elitists going.
Here's the ED article about it if you're interested (it's a satirical look on the website but a lot of it is true)

Wow! I'm shocked by this article. I loved Cracked articles and laughed when they mention Urkel from Family Matters had Asperger's but IMO this seems harsh. I hate the idea that for some it's a get out of jail or whatever thing to be normal. It's silly. Sure I love having Social Skills THAT SUCK! and SCREWING UP IN LIFE!! and say/doing THE WRONG THING HAVING ASPERGER'S IS A GREAT EXCUSE! *sarcasm* I think it's sad that people just use it like that. :-( Then there are those that actually have it and yet this stuff gets tossed around that's sad!! !!

Oh thanks, I enjoy reading ED (as long as I don't click on any links without checking what it really leads to) so that should be interesting.

And while the source for your avatar might be funny, it's still creepy. Maybe it's the way that thing has no face. Or maybe not... I don't know.

I am not in favor of the idea of being evolved or any 'supremacy' - I do think that there are advantage AND disadvantages to being on the spectrum, and I work to find ways to turn them to my advantage where possible. I think the concept of "superpowers" gets warped through the excessive use... and if one reads comic books, all superheroes had their weaknesses, their Achilles' heel(s) that made for the drama between them and the villains. To paraphrase from a comic I recently read, all that omnipotence and omniscience gets kind of boring after awhile and your act is causing us to sell fewer copies. So perhaps the social impairment would be seen at the Kryptonite to what is perceived as a boon such as the joy of interest and intense focus, or other skill. I think it has more to do with self-perspective than anything else... we're people, and while we're different than most we still share a great deal of common ground.

I don't find it funny at all, I see it as a stupid thing to say. I don't see it as offending, but I can see why it has offended people here.

Indeed, we're certainly not a different race, nor a superior one, AS comes with advantages and disadvantages. It seems as if some would prefer to believe that there are no disadvantages.

Much the same as the Encyclopedia Dramatica article. Since it's referring largely to excuse mongers with e-diagnoses' - No, I found it funny. That, and I think the pride thing is ret*d.

of course, you mean 'ret*d' it the best possible way, and not really making reference to mentally or socially ret*d people as something negative that you would not want to be, right?

I mean, you are not putting down other people with conditions they were born with through no fault of their own, right?

Otherwise that would be extremely offensive.

OK, so all those who don't find the article offensive because it is talking about the fakers - am I to take it that you resemble the REAL aspie they depicted in that cartoon picture?

Well yes. If you don't look like a cartoon tortoise you don't qualify I'm afraid *folds arms*

Not this "hurr hurr its attacking self-diagnosed ret*ds" BS again.

Do not trust that site regarding anything related to Asperger as they will distort it as badly as the Goatse man.
