I've tried many different dietary approaches, and the only thing that's made a noticeable difference for me has been flax oil (omega-3). I swear by the stuff; it makes it so that instead of having 100 thoughts in my head at one time, I only have maybe 2 or 3.

But I wouldn't presume that what works for me is going to have the same dramatic, life-changing results for anyone else. For those who have found their own ideal diet that makes them feel at their best, that is awesome. But I think the answer is going to be different for everyone.

I agree with you. I don't think there is one cause for autistic symptoms. The diet and supplements work for me and goldfish, but I know that they may not work for everyone.

I don't like supplements and I don't mind having lots of thoughts in my head at a time...I have no problem processing them all.

Since you're referring to me, I'll reply.

Since NO ONE was referring to you, don't bother.

why would it be for nothing? It would still be to have coped through everything along the way. Further, if you were cured, then you wouldn't have to put so much mental energy into your coping mechanisms anymore. Life would just come much more naturally and intuitively to you without all of the extra work just to make it through the day.

exacly, id go nuts, id have al this mental energy and i wouldnt know what to do with it. i just cant imagine life where things come naturally

I actually feel kind of bad for you, it seems like you've got something like a virtual tape player looping in your head - telling you that what I'm telling you isn't true and that no matter what there's no way that changing your diet or trying anything new may alleviate the symptoms that have been screwing with your life for so long now that you're afraid to know anything different or better. Especially since it would only take a couple of weeks of diet experiment to either prove or disprove it to yourself, but instead that tape keeps telling you it's BS so you're not willing to try anything that might be good for you.

goldfish, dude, I like you, I do, and I understand your *excitement* over your diet, I do, but you are obsessed man!

I have had great success with a similar diet when it comes to my physical health issues. Not as complicated as yours but enough to cure my fatigue, IBS, headaches and CFS type issues. All the same I don't keep ramming it in people faces and insisting they must try it. I will recommend it and occasionally point out what success I have had with it and how much I love it (my paleo nutrition) but people don't like being preached to. It tends to piss people off sweetie and put them on the defensive, especially when you criticise them for not wanting to do what you think they should do.

I do partially follow the same diet as you and no I have not cured my social issues but I am not sure that diet ever would to be honest. I am always going to be interested in the things I am interested in and those things are never going to be what most NT females want me to be into..so I am always going to be the odd eccentric outcast with boring hobbies (boring to them, not to me, I am fascinated by my interests personally..I fail to see what is so boring about them) regardless of what I eat.

I am sure your diet has most definitely had beneficial results for you in some ways, as has mine, just stop shoving it down peoples throats before they start to choke, ok?

It does come naturally if you let it and stop letting society tell you how and what you should be.

Just because our culture says that a human should be x,y and z it does not mean it is correct.

If there was a "cure" for aspergers, I might consider taking it. My general social ineptness has gotten me into a lot of trouble over the course of my life. For example, I got kicked out of my highschool for watching the SWAT team train tere over summer vacation then telling everyone when they were coming, how many there would be, what their avenues of approach would be, etc. I just thought that if I were any of those people I'd like to know these things ahead of time, but my principal just didn't seem to understand. Looking back, I got arrested (or at least scolded & threatened with arrest) for little things like that a lot.

Despite my often misunderstood behavior, I probably wouldn't consider becoming normal. I really shouldn't brag so I'l simply say that the talents I was gifted with and skills I was able to develop much more easily than any neurotypical could more than make up for every time someone thought my home-made radio equipment was some kind of bomb or someone in black body armor pointed a gun at me and shouted orders for me to put my hands up for whatever reason. I'll gladly take a life where I'm taunted regularly for my inability to focus on more than one thing at a time or pacing almost constantly (especially when this combination of things causes me to get hurt or break someting. For example, I recently walked into a large pane of glass while reading a book much to the ammusement of those around me) & every day I risk being chained to a bench and interrogated again because of some breakdown in communication because I've proven that I'm capable of things no neurotypical could accomplish.

In words that are not my own, “What would happen if the autism gene was eliminated from the gene pool?
You would have a bunch of people standing around in a cave, chatting and socializing and not getting anything done.”

I don't know one person with either ADHD or bipolar that doesn't mind having racing restless thoughts.

You don't have any of those disorders, do you?

Omega 3 for the win! I usually take it when I need more energy and so I'm not such a cranky pants.

They don't really feel racing to me...my brain has always just been busy. In fact it feels odd when I don't have brain full of thoughts, tangents, questions, opinions, feelings, random observations etc.

I am very much used to the speed of my brain, it has always been that way.

I also don't mind working with lots of detail.

I just seem to have more energy than most people be it for cognitive processes or physically.

Scatty brain that I have.

I don't think I have bipolar and I am not sure about ADHD. I do have the concentration span of a goldfish with Alzheimer's at times but that is usually when I am bored.

I took to daydreaming at school because the lessons were so slow they bored me. Drove me nuts waiting for everyone else to catch up. Such is life with the brain I got.
