Just as a note, out of the 100k or so I make a year, the government is generous enough to let me keep 60K of it. If I knew that 40k was going to keeping the roads up and making sure the cops weren't beating my ass, I might be okay with it. But when I read half the crap in this thread it makes me want to start mugging welfare recipients.

If there are any slavers in this nation, it's the people that give the government an excuse to tax 40% of my income.

first of all you dont know me, you dont even live in the same country i live in so stop acting like you give me your entire paycheck. second of all if the services i recive wich i pay for by the way, were ever snatched from me i wouldnt care. maybe you dont relise this but canadian and american welfare systems are completely different dumbnuts. canadian welfare is ALOT easier to get on than american welfare so untill you move to america and work more hours than i do you can kindly shut it.



did you even read the website or immiadiatley dissmiss it because "whywork" was in the URL? its a website about creating liveable wages, so people like me who are probably going to end up making the minimum wage can make a living. and maybe a little leasure isnt such a bad thing afterall?

No, I read that website and I was about to quote a whole bunch of "quotes" it had on it but I didn't post because I found it pointless.

I reread your initial post and anyone making under 3000 can get food stamps? Buddy, *I* make less then that, yet, come out WITH money at the end of the month with a downtown apartment, new car, and all my fun bills. Not only that, but Canadian funds don't quite "equal" American funds so I'm actually getting much less then that "3000." Even more so, here, in Canada? Ya, we pay more in taxes for more "services" so I make even less then before.

You can have all the leisure you want but earn it by doing something. I think this world needs a good war. It'll get you out of the house and doing something. For the love of country. Then maybe, like our grandparents, when you see whatever friend you have's head blow off, you'll view life a little differently.

Richard, what do you even do with that time? I expect you're an author or a painter or have SOMETHING to show for it. You're obsessed with more time. I have LOTS of time, even with all the hours I work, but what is it you do with that time? Are you living like a 5 star resort or making cars or what?

i'm not upset. i'm just tired of talking to someone in another country who thinks i owe him something. maybe i didnt make myself clear enough, you cant have more than 3,000 dollars in possesions everything from a car, jewlery. houses, or money from a job. to qualify for foodstamps. sure it seems like alot but when the standard of living is high, (like in most places in america) 3k isnt alot of money at all. and btw i only get $55 dollars a month in foodstamps and get to see the doctor twice a year. so it isnt exactley a goldmine dude, dont you guys in canada have national healthcare? regardless if you work or not?? i'm sure its alot easier for you guys to collect unemployment, and get on disability, than it is for americans. i'm gonna do some reaserch tonite and see just how sweet a deal your government is. who knows maybe i'll make canada my home.

well you guys defintley have a sweeter deal on unempoyment. you pay UI and can draw on it anytime you loose your job. its not exactly that easy here in america. you guys also have national healthcare regardeless if you work or not. wow thats pretty cool, i mean we have medicaid here but if you make any kindof money in my state atleast, you wont qualify for it. i could probably draw off of disability in your country aswell, this is looking like a pretty sweet deal. i didnt know not being mobile enough is actually a disability. you'd never get away with that in the united states, you practicly have to be a vegetable or be expected to expire in a year to collect any kind of disability. haha

Just because Canada is easy is proof that someone doesn't need it. If it was so great, why aren't more Canadians on it? Why don't you ask yourself that question instead of looking at our services like a "Ferrari" featuring a shiney new "cup holder."

Ya, lets look at that health care. Its illegal to go to a private clinic. Super. I'm given what the government tells me is good (which amounts to an average of 22+hour wait times for emergency services (sounds great, doesn it?)). Lets see, despite what you guys think, my life isn't perfect and I had to see a doctor. Took me 6 months to see a specialist due to shortages due to the government health care SYSTEM itself.

Yup, its great. Its like this because there is no open market competition. Its allowed to die off because there are no alternatives. Its a "monopoly" and it won't go away because peoples 'hearts' are bigger then there brains and can't see it failing.

Yes, we pay unemployment insurance. Again, you are so ignorant towards what that means. It doesnt mean "cash in" its INSURANCE! Insurance isn't "renting services" its "just in case." You don't understand that one bit. You don't understand what would happen if we all jumped on this service. You don't understand one bit of this. The only thing on your mind is cheating a system out of "55" dollars (which isn't much, as an individual, and thats why its "socialism" because its a pool where many OTHER individuals, like yourself, can take from).

The irony is that people flee Iraq, they have REAL complaints over your sugar plumb problems. They come to other nations and work there ass off. They've seen the other side. The only difference was that if they did what you do here, they'd probably die. This system is designed to help yet, you think its designed to maintain your life. I wish everyone with a real problem would line up beside you so you can see who else collects what you do. But again, you don't care, you're too selfish and have this "me me me" attitude like the world owes YOU, specifically, something. Not sure what you did to deserve any of it but my friends love the idea of yours - dropping everything and jumping on these nice services. Seriously, havent found too many people that will even play 'devils advocate' for your argument, dude, and thats sad considering my one friend loves to and normally irritates me with it. Instead, he just rolled his eyes and didn't even want to take up the challenge.

I still think that people without a "problem" should get the largest tax refund called "We don't have a problem except everyone else's problem" tax refund.

Answer me this, then;

What do you think would happen if we ALL worked 15 hour weeks. Explain to me the following and answer where these people will come from:
- Law enforcement
- Medical Assisstance
- Military protection
- Transportation of goods sea/land/air
- City services such as street plowing, public transportation, etc
- People to run governments so they can set up services you take from because you cant work 8 more hours to get the 55 dollars of food stamps because its not only "55 dollars" but rather "ONLY 8 more hours you have to work to get it and EARN it"

Seriously, if you've driven or raced so many incredible vehicles, you'd take a more responsible view of how the roads work. If you're such a 1337 racer, that is. If you're just another ricer...I'd expect your current attitude. Seriously. Save it for the rice patties.

It sounds like you have a lot on your plate, but seriously, I can't see the need for the abusive language. You can make a point without trolling around and flaming people. If you've done so much, take a slice of maturity and behave like an adult. No one likes a flamer.

Simple fact people - when it seems there's something wrong with the entire world, then chances are the world's just doing it's thing and there's something wrong with you. Major problems can be worked with and overcome, it's the attitude that sticks it in your rear.
