Okay you're going to think I'm nuts or annoying but I have discovered that green tea (specific recipe below) works as well as a tranquilizer.

Recipe (I'm not much of a chef as you can see)

1 clean jar or pitcher*
1 or 2 green tea bags or loose
cinnamon stick (optional)
sweetener (optional)
boiling water

combine, cover, ignore for a few a hours, when cool put in fridge

This is what I call the Mother Batch. I pour a half a glass of this, fill it with ice and/or water, and drink it all day long instead of my 8 glasses of water. And when I drink it, I start to yawn and be relaxed.

* don't you just love it when recipes specify "clean"? (Oh, like I should get the dog food out?)

Just thought I'd share - maybe it'll help?

I might actually give that a try.

Don't worry, I'm sure the guy that invented Coke was called a nut at some point.

Does not work. a good stimulant and something god to chew if you got leaves snce it removes bad aftertastes from your mouth but it has caffeine ... almost to more so than coffee and caffeine makes me nervous af* which comin gtogether with the other stuff in the tea doesn't seem to work at all to reduce anxiety/stress.

It doesn't work with me either. I prefer some herbal teas without cafeine, but none have really been wonders or anything.

it sounds really good. maybe i'll give it a try.

i've had different reactions to green tea. as a kid, it made me drowsy. now it peps me up.

do the other ingredients have an effect on it--in terms of making it sedative?

I use the same recipe for summer green tea, but recently I've had to cut down a lot because it has lots of caffeine.

The only tea that I know has a calming effect and is sold as such is called tilo tea. I don't know if you can get it in your country. I'll make myself a cup later today, now that I remember it.

"Stimulants" like caffeine do work as tranquilizers for some--I've heard a lot of stories about people on Ritalin becoming zombie-like as though they had taken a major tranquilizer. People can also have paradoxical reactions to caffeine that include mild sedation.

Green tea does not have a large amount of caffeine to begin with, though, so it could be the sensory aspect of drinking the tea that is soothing. I wouldn't be surprised at that, as I get a similar benefit from peppermint tea that I'm quite sure has very little to do with any medicinal properties it might have.

Have you tried hop tea? I am planning to grow some hops just to test their effect.
