I've noticed this for a while. This often happens when I'm taking a bus in the ghetto. I often take a position in the back of the bus close to the last seats (the seats parallel to the side windows). Often I'm one seat from the back seats that face the front of the bus. Often a black person would sit behind me in those cases-while the bus is nearly empty in those cases. I think it happens more often later on at night than in the day. My best guess is it's the cameras and whatnot on the bus and the dude hates that. But is it anything else I don't know of?

I remember there's some psychology experiment on people's spacings from each other-'personal space'. E.g. the spaces people would choose to sit in when going into say-a university classroom. Guess neurodiverse people provide a different transmission and change how the NTs react/move.

yeah, when I unloaded on him he said "I thought you might like the company, sorry MA'AM! for being a good guy!"

before I knew I was weird to others, I used to be very confrontational. I am not so much any more, and am much more understanding to people now. At least I don't yell any more. What a harridan I was!

I think perhaps it is a safety in numbers thing. They feel safer if they are sitting near a person, even if it is a stranger. Its better than having people avoid you I guess.

I would tend to go for the very back corner of a room, a bus, or whatever just because I don't like having people moving behind me. The corner has the advantage of protection on two sides. My wife calls it "gunslinger's syndrome", but I've never been a violent person. But I was frequently bullied as a child and others would come up behind me and push me or try to kick my legs out from under me, etc. That is why I would go for the corner.

lol. I think my grandmother was that way when younger (e.g. being more confrontational, almost getting arrested once, and fights. She threatened to kick someone's ass in church once I think)

Heh, my mom recently told me that my great-grandmother was frequently fired from housekeeping jobs for getting into arguments with people and being generally rude. It's definitely hereditary around here. As for Aspies, maybe we feel more threatened by people sometimes because their standards of behavior are so alien. As for the bus, I just figured people like to sit in the back of things.

Why don't you just sit in the back-back corner then?

But yeah that's weird I don't know why they'd do that. Unless you're a cute girl. But I see you are not. D:

It is the only place to sit where you don't have Warsie behind you.

Probably safety in numbers. If somebody comes on the bus and starts something, he will likely go for the guy who is sitting alone first, or the driver or somebody at the front. If you're the only guy on the bus, then somebody will want to sit behind you in the hopes of you getting jacked up first. I lived in San Francisco for a while, and it was never a good idea to sit near the driver if you were going through the ghetto on a bus because if somebody attacked the driver you might get caught in the crossfire. I was present on several occasions when drivers were attacked.

my problem happens on the train. if i sit an an empty subway car, inevitably someone will sit right next to me despite the fact that there are dozens of other potential seats available. i don't know what it is about me that they could find inviting. i'm always occupied with a book and (of course) refuse to look at them.

Gosh this is such an aspie trait! I used to do this too.

If you don't want someone sitting behind you, then sit in the back row!

Set up any given situation so your expectations have a higher chance of being met. Take more control of your life. Assert yourself.

Don't keep doing the same thing the same way and then get frustrated when it fails the same way it failed the last time.
