Autism and Insurance

If you have a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder, is it true that you can't get ANY insurance? Or is it just that most/all insurance companies don't cover treatments for ASDs? I've heard a lot that people with an autism dx can't get insurance, but I'm not sure what that means.

I have had to switch insurance several times since being diagnosed. (mainly becuase my employer switches it occasionally.)

What some insurance companies will try to say is that ASD is a "preexisting condition" therefore they don't have to cover it. It's not that they won't cover you at all, they just don't want to cover the ASD stuff.

It has never been an obstacle for me, however. I get very depressed becuase I can't see a psych to help me function, so I then go to the psych for depression. Or maybe I develop a OCD behavior I need help with so I go to a psych for OCD. Maybe I am suffering from a bout of PTSD, so I go to the psych for PTSD. Maybe I am not functioning well and its causing family problems, so I go to the psych for family couseling. You get where I am coming from, there are many ways into a psych's door. So even if they try the pre-existing condition cr@p, it doesn't hold up.
