I'm isolated and I don't even realize it?

Sometimes I wonder if I am really isolated and didn't realize it all this time.

I mean, I did have one good social outing with a friend this year (I just don't seem to get around to getting people).

Been there, done that.

'One good social outing' for a whole year will be terribly insufficient for a typical person.

Here is a rhyme about the hollow within
There is no time like the past to wallow in
There is no time like the present to swallow in
There is no time like the future to follow in
Here is a chime not without an Apollo spin

I tend to agree with that statement. The word autisim means to look within and I realize that is true with myself. Someone with severe autism can't even get out of their own head while we Aspies can although I think it is very easy to slip into our own thoughts and not realize it. I also feel that isolation increases more as you get older. When I was younger, I tried to mask my differences with drugs and alcohol but I now view that as a crutch I no longer need. People also tend to pair off and marry and raise families and as a single person gets older there are fewer people they have anything in common with; as a result isolation increases. As one Aspie put it when asked " don't you get lonely spending so much time by yourself?" His reply was, "no, I really don't because I like myself."
