Is it common for people with ASDs to have a fear of being "seperated"(not physically but in some other dementions , sort of )like when there are two door ways, and say my husband walks through one door, and I feel compelled(driven by fear and anxitey ) to follow through the same door. If I go through the other doorway, then there is a overwhelming panic feeling that you will be "seperated" in a different level of exhistance, from that person forever. I don't always feel this way anymore, and I recognize it as a irrational fear, but my sons have the same issue. (my oldesst is 8 and HFA, and younger one is 4, and very much like me,but concidered NT by his preschool teacher and his pediatrition. It took till I was was 34 to finally be diagnoses with Aspergers.. I know my older son has the same issues and assumed it is becasue we both are on the autism spectrum, but my 4 year has some irrational fears that are becoming problematic, and his physician says it is all typical of kids his age. He also has a fear of running water(afraid it is going to overflow after one incident of the toilet over flowing). He is afraid of the wind blowing things away.( and I mean things like heavy things, etc. ) Theese are problematic becaseu they are interfering with many aspects of his life. He is VERY smart, and understands many things MUCH better than my 8 year old. He comprehends things well beyond his 4 years. He is very sensitivve. Should I take him to see my psychologist that specializes in Aspergers, or am i worrying too much and i should just wait till next year when he is in Kindergarten?. He has all of the traits that i had when I was his age.
I'm not sure if I have that problem or not. I will follow family members around often and too much though, not sure if it's related.

When I was little, yes indeed! Well, not so much a "fear" than it is a "wierd feeling."
I just had to go through the same door as my companion to make things feel "right."
Now me and my fiance make a game of such things. ![]()

One of my grandsons is showing some of your son's traits, and I plan to mention that to the man I am talking with about me. Trying to run solely on my own opinions even in relation to others has never worked very well for me!
