Interesting prospect.
Something should certainly be done about bullying.

I'm really happy this is happening :D bullying can really mess up the victim's education, self esteem, and peace of mind. I'm glad those grade school days are over!

Bullies only really understand one language.

They need a good humiliating public beating so that THEY can feel the fear.

Neat. I think that should be implemented nation wide. A problem I see though is that kids could start reporting other kids for bullying simply because they don't like them, even if no actual bullying has occurred.

However, it seems as though they plan on investigating matters semi-thoroughly before issuing tickets. It would also give bullies incentive to do their bullying in private, so there would be no witnesses to corroborate the story, which would likely make it more difficult to confirm the validity of the claim and issue a ticket.

After thinking about it, I'm not sure how much it will actually help. Speeding tickets don't stop people from speeding, they just stop people from speeding when they see the police around.

Logistically, this will not work. Parents will fight every citation because they believe their children can do no wrong. Kids may lie about someone bullying them and it'll cost them $100. A teacher can mis-hear something, and the misunderstanding can cause the student to get a fine.
And it's a poor way to teach school staff accountability if they just let courts discipline the children instead of taking care of the problem themselves.

Now they will pay for this..

THEY WILL ALL PAY!

Anyway bullying is a serious issue. Remember Phoebe Prince? Megan Meier? Many people are affected by bullying to an extent that the worst can happen.

I'd welcome this sort of thing with open arms. The financial cost of $100 is nothing compared to the emotional and psychological cost to the bullying victim.

If the bully cannot eat, or cannot pay their rent because of the trauma they've caused someone and getting a fine for it, let them starve. Let them lose their home.

the only real way to deal with bullies, if they are caught red handed, I say a public lynching is in order.

Give the bully 1 night in State prison.

He'll come out the next day a changed man

Such as with ox urine-soaked bamboo canes.

So agree. with this. If it was to happen I would literally collect a bag of dog feces just to dump on the "poor sod" that is stuck in the stocks. Or I can just toss rotten food at the person.

I soo despise bullies because of the s**t I have gone through with them.

This isn't going to be zero tolerance, is it? It makes me worry people are going to be fined that don't really deserve it (as in the article about the sped autistic boy who drew himself shooting his teacher to express anger, who I believe got in a lot of trouble, did he really deserve it because of a zero tolerance policy?)

I think this is cool but I think the problem is, everyone has their own views on what bullying is so anyone would be getting fines for bullying they didn't do. People get fined for ignoring a bully or for standing up for themselves or fighting back. People get fined for doing comebacks. That means people would be fined for self defense and not letting a bully getting to them.

I think they should have mandated community service instead.
