I love where I live but hate being an outsider
I live on an acreage surrounded by nature and animals and I love that aspect so much but I totally hate the town I live in.
I hate going to get groceries or leave the house to go anywhere local as I've been here for years tried so hard to make friends and fit in but failed miserably.
I love travelling and will go anywhere as long as its not local.
I'd really love to go to an aspie support group and meet other aspies but there are none here, surprise, surprise..
As you can imagine the locals are pretty judgemental and intolerant of anybody who is different to them whuch makes me hate it even more.
Rural communities can be like that, yes. If you aren't a Dodge truck driving church going beer drinking america loving football fan then they will shut you out at the very least, or perhaps even get hostile.
City dwellers love to poke fun at rednecks in states like WVa. Let me tell you, WVa has nothing on Washington state rednecks. There's the Seattle area, and the rest of the state are all inbreed rednecks. My dream is to some day buy acreage outside of Seattle, but then I'd most certainly run into the same problem you have.
Can you order groceries online?
Can you maybe grow a garden and stuff, so you have to get groceries less often? If you have enough space, maybe you could even get a goat or a cow and get your own milk! And maybe some chickens for eggs.. But not for meat! You should not meet your meat!
And anything non-perishable you can order online. I was having trouble finding gluten anywhere except Walmart, and I hate walmart, so I ordered it from Amazon.com, and it was actually cheaper! (Making your own bread might decrease how often you have to go grocery shopping, too.)
There should be an aspie colony, where nobody is ever required to acknowledge each other if they don't want to, and small-talk is strictly forbidden! ![]()
Yes we already have the chickens and I'd never dream of eating them. Would love to be able to grow my own vegies but just cant get around organising it. Also unable to order online for groceries as I'm too far out of town and they don't deliver this far.
Your so right about the truck driving, beer drinking, church going locals. I just hate them so much. You know when I moved here I didnt know I was AS back then and took on all the NTish advice about going out and joining up into clubs and studying a course at tafe, and getting involved in volunteer work and playing sports etc etc blah blah did all that and more and it did Jack Squat! I'm just so over people now and am embracing my lonerism. I also have a teenager with AS who hates it here also and wants to move but even that overwhelms me just thinking about it. He's grown up seeing the way people have treated me and now he also wants to just escape from mainstream society.
Dear Anastasia, I feel a great amount of compassion for you as, though I may not live in a rural community I had in the past and did not feel like one of the locals. In fact, I felt more like a heretic sense I was not fond of sports or into other pursuits the other townspeople took part in.Anyways, May it be with you Anastasis you and your teenage child be able to find some comfort no matter where or the extent of such..Even myself I'm all by myself to some extent where I live even though there are other Aspies you, don't see them congregating in one particular area..
