First off let me say I'm sorry for anyone with any of these bad experiences or conditions. Sorry to offend. My mind likes to wander and I tend to imagine abduction rape in the woods, blind, deaf, paralysis, car accident (you name it I've imagine it.) :-( So I was curious does anyone else imagine what life would be like IF you had X condition? IMO one thing that would be GREAT is losing my voice box! Then I will not say the wrong thing/laugh incorrectly LOL! YA!

Sometimes I imagine pretending to be mute. I could have a etcher-sketcher to write down all i wanted to say.

At my age those fears of going down with a serious ailment have become a little more realistic....I suppose I'm quite likely to get cancer or heart disease in another 10 or 20 years. :( The Grim Reaper must have got something scary in store for me, unless I turn out to be immortal. I went through a stage of worrying a lot about all that....these days I don't think about it much unless I get a mysterious pain or something, and then I think "could this be the beginning of the end?" I often wonder what noxious stuff is in the food I eat, the air I breathe, and in my (laboratory) workplace environment which often seems rather out of control with inexperienced, poorly-supervised people playing around with carcinogens and radioactive chemicals. Then there's the likelihood that old age will eventually make it impossible for me to sing as well as I currently do....I'm already finding it hard to sustain my high notes as long as I could when I was in my 20s.

Other times I might worry about having a road traffic accident - being rather an impulsive and clumsy type, I wonder how long I can go on dodging the cars before one gets me.

Then there's the possibility of getting maimed by some bunch of muggers. That happened to a guy in my neighbourhood who was just walking back home one night, minding his own business, just like I often do. He'll never be the same again. His assailants are still at large.

But one of my greatest fears is to end up without any money for food and shelter, losing my job through impossible expectations and unable to find another I can cope with, and shoved off social security by a government anxious to cut down on spending. Logically it's unlikely to happen - I've never even been sacked - but somehow I daren't let myself get too complacent about it. All I'd have to do would be to reveal to the benefits staff my true feelings about working, and they'd have a cast-iron excuse to never pay me any benefits ever again. And I don't suppose my employer would take kindly to knowing what I think of my current job.

Still, overall I don't really spend much time worrying about it all. When bad stuff has happened to me in the past, it's never been the stuff I've been anticipating.
