I want to set up a nonprofit foundation for WrongPlanet.net so people can donate tax free. I would like some help from someone here who knows about this stuff as I have absolutely no idea what to do.

In short form you need to make a company or foundation first . Than file with the IRS non-profit due to being educational and sort of scientific. Form 1023 You fill it out and send it in and the IRS grants you non-profit staus if you can be one. Than the IRS gives you a non-profit tax number.

Read those links as starters Alex

Alex, I hope your plans involve helping people in need, as you mentioned here (as opposed to financing WrongPlanet's publicity or technical aspects). If so, then I think this is a fantastic idea, and can't keep myself from offering to volunteer in this endeavor. How can I help?

Alex although people on here have given you some good advice remember to seek advice in person/IRL as well from any local organisations or services. Get it right first time :P
