I have just been upstairs after my aspie son and his NT friend had got into an argument. Trying to resolve it I asked them what the problem was. His NT friend articulated very well the argument and gave his side of the story, my son however said that he was being bothered by him. I sked him specifically did he do. My son said he can't remember, I felt so frustrated at this that he could not recall an argument that happened 15 seconds ago, I told my son off for the things I new he said and told the other boy off too, as I said that he must have said something as well even though my son couldn't recall it and his friend just said it was all my sons fault. Is this typically an Aspergers trait, he is 10 years old and is at school where altercations are frequent and he needs to be able to defend himself or at the very least recall what has happened. Any suggestions, I know this is part of the reason he is still being bullied and not believed by the teachers.

I have similar problems ALL THE TIME and it's immensely frustrating. Anytime I am asked to provide specific examles of just about anything my brain locks and I can maybe recall one or two if I'm lucky. Then, later on, when i've had time to think about it for a long time I'll start remembering things and mentally kicking myself for not remembering them when I needed to. It's like I just can't handle being put on the spot, so to speak.

It's very much Aspie-ish, in my experience. It happens to me all the time, you have no idea of how many arguments I've had with my wife with developments along these lines.

This goes for me exactly. This is a good example of why I keep coming back to this site, the people here keep describing my life to me.

Igorstop that made me laugh, you keep coming here because people describe your life to you. Me too.
My husband with AS also forgets what arguments are about a few minutes afterwards. I think though because he doesn't view them as important, maybe.
But I must admit I am worse with this, when someone is talking to me, a few minutes later I will usually forget what we were talking about. Unless it is very important, then I have to consentrate really hard.
The young Aspies in my home get flustered when asked to repeat what they have said, or to repeat what was said to them. They know the meaning of what was said but unless they can repeat it word for word they get flustered.
I hope this helps.

I do that maybe too much and it's annoying, i hated one of my teachers because she would ask random people to repeat her instructions, i never could and she kept asking me because she thought i just wasn't paying attention :|
Normally a few minutes or maybe an hour later, i remember most of what was said.

I know i had trouble with teachers believing when i was bullied when i was about 8, i could never recall what the person in question looked like and what was said/done etc. One teacher did believe me however and it was eventually resolved but only when she was walking with me into a classroom one time and i spotted the person in question. Luck more then anything in that case i guess

I have very good recall about some things but when I'm upset I enter a state in which I remember very little afterward, and what I do remember is poorly sequenced.

When I've experienced a conflict, my reflexive response is to try thinking of it in terms of logic and rationale. It's especially unnerving when I know on a gut level that I've acted irrationally and my precious logic has failed me (or vice versa, really) -- when in fact the conflict has had little to do with reason, but with feelings. And I'm awful at pinpointing what I feel and why I do, as it can take hours / days / weeks / years to determine what I really feel about something.

/me thinks I dunno why I did that. He / she / they / it just pissed me off  My wife has told me she wishes she could be as emotionally detached as I am; I tell her that emotional detachment has its downside, too.
