When I talk to someone, be it my closest family members (mum and grandfather) I can start a conversation pretty easily, however when I talk or in the middle of my sentence I completely get mind blocked in what I'm trying to say, and I completely forget what the conversation was about! It's quite embarrassing, especially to people who don't know me, and I just say "blah blah, um, what was we talking about again?" and then laugh. So I sit there for a good 2 minutes urging myself to think about what to say next. I'm not sure whether this is AS related ?? Or could just be me. You see, I have quite a few traits of aspergers but have not acknowledged them until coming on here (currently being assessed)

That does sometimes happen to me, but rarely. To my knowledge it doesnt have anything to do with AS or ASD, but it might in your case. Or then it just might be you.
Poor attention span can be common in autism, so maybe it does have to do with autism?

Funny enough, my attention span is AWFUL. I mean, I'll see a cricket from about miles away and start laughing during conversations. Or see something funny and get really distracted. Although if I'm focussing on my interests I can stay focussed for ages! It's great!

In that case your problem that you mentioned in the post is probably due to your poor attention span, if that is related to autism, (for you) i dont know, but my best guess is that it is because of poor attention span

yes, brain freezes are a common thing for autists. we generally suffer from a lot of anxiety-related problems. it got worse for me as i'd just embarrass myself, so i stopped talking

I've had more and more of those embarrassing kinds of brain freezes. I hate when that happens.

It's so embarassing in big social situations, or with people older than you. Glad I'm not alone, How do you guys cope and deal with it?
