Can morning routines take a long time for aspies? What do they usually consist of?

I had a male teacher who would take a long time to get ready in the morning. The guy was not into stuff like hair gel and makeup, so that was not what took up time for him. I'm wondering if it was a psychological thing.....he needed time to prepare himself to face the world.

I'm a female, but as far as grooming goes, I don't need much time....30min for a shower, clothes, a little makeup...etc.

But I get up 2 hours before I have to leave so I can have my coffee, read the news, and just prepare for the day. If I don't get that time (I can live with 1.5 hours), it creates a lot of problems. My brain gets really muddled if it's rushed and my day is thrown off track.

Not me. I just get up, clean off any obvious grime, drag a comb across my head (not necessary when I've just had a crew-cut 8) ), insert contact lenses, downstairs, make cup of tea, drink it, put on my coat, set the timer on the central heating, check the doors are locked, and off I go. 15 minutes is more than enough. It's a very well-practised routine (been doing it that way for over 18 years) so I can perform it very efficiently, everything is in just the right place. I don't usually feel hungry till lunchtime so I have no need for breakfast. I've often thought of expanding the morning routine but it's hard for me to get up any earlier than I do when it's cold weather.

When I worked, I would get up at six on weekdays and get dressed and have my breakfast and watch TV and then head out the door around seven. I liked having some extra time before work. Then I changed the time to 6:15 so I'd have some extra sleep. On weekends, I get up at seven and do the same thing and leave right before eight. I also changed the time to 7:15 so I'd have some extra sleep. Now I have no morning routine. I am always on the computer and my sleep schedule is off. I sleep whenever I'm tired. Yesterday I went to sleep at 4:30 and got up around 11 last night. I've been up ever since.

sometimes i cannot think what i need with me. if it is something simple or well practiced then it is easy. I usually have to take lot's of stuff and do certain things. I find it best when i prepare my stuff the night before.

Usually i much prefer having time to shower, relax, eat a nice breakfast and surf the net but this takes almost 2 hours to be relaxing. otherwise i rush and still end up being late because i walk out the door then realise i need such and such.

At home, my morning routine is limited to grooming (shave, shower, dress) and running the checklists (including the crucial "count to seven" checklist of necessary things to have on my person! Thankfully I can no longer lock the door without having the key with me!)

My commute is what provides we with the charge/discharge from the workday. One the way in to work I usually have the newspapers (Soduko plus cryptic crossword) and reading material. (Thankfully I am able to read on moving vehicles!). I double back on the Skytrain to ensure that I have a single seat throughout the ride, and I arrive at work ready to roll. The only problem moment is making sure I am not stuck in the middle of the crowd when leaving the station.

My morning routine:

Up at 6:45
Get dressed
Put kettle on
Put a cup of water in a pan for oatmeal
Measure oats
Get out cutting board
Prepare two lunches, for kids
Prepare kid's medicine (crush tablets and mix with flavoring)
Brew tea
Make sure kids are awake
Make toast for kids
Eat oatmeal and drink tea
Brush teeth
Comb hair
Wash dishes

I don't have a routine for showering; I do it when I get a chance, usually at night. My husband uses up the hot water in the morning with his shower.

me neither... :D lol

wake up at 0500
scan email and check weather via my mobile phone while still in bed
go to the bathroom, wash my hands
rinse with mouthwash and brush teeth
1 x glass of water
kit up and go riding, returning at approx. 0600
1 x glass of water with supplements/vitamins and any medication
clean my sunglasses
shave, rinse off my face, then repeat - in case i missed any stray stubble
shower
get dressed
clean my eye-glasses
make and drink a double-shot coffee while continuing to prepare
eat 2 x apples (pink lady apples are the best) after cutting on either side, and then on the other two smaller leftover sides, leaving neat square cores (not cut into quarters)
check email again via my mobile phone
watch early news on television
go to the bathroom again, wash my hands
make sure that my shirt, trousers, belt are sitting correctly and that my appearance is a-ok.
make a second double-shot coffee to go in my thermos cup
depart for work at 0720-0730

This is my morning routines:

Wake up.
Use the toilet.
Maybe shower if it's the right day. And that takes an ( ) hour!
Apply various creams for my face and hands.
Get dressed.
Eat breakfast.
Brush my hair.
Brush my teeth.

And it may take a while. :)

I tried making a routine, but it fails, because it's the weekend now. I'm going to modify it slightly now.
