question about sunglasses/tinted lenses

Hi,

I've got AS and am light-sensitive. I'm also near-sighted and due for a new pair of glasses. Anyone out there who has either tinted or glasses that adjust for bright light who can tell me what tint/lens color, etc they got that they like?

My husband is also light-sensitive (can't stand florescents either!) and although he has no "prescription" he wears glasses with a rosy tint. It is darker at the top, and thins out going down, like a car windshield tint. It made a huge difference for him.

My son has those glasses that darken when bright. We just got them from Walmart. He loves them.

I tried to look up the brand/tint color name but the Walmart site was less than helpful. Sorry.

I wonder if anyone makes a nonprescription tinted contact? You wouldn't have to worry about losing them, just stick them in and forget about it.

Cripes. Since one can get cat eye contacts for Halloween, you'd think one could find just about anything in contacts.

I wear contacts, sometimes, but now that Keats brought it up I keep thinking how nice a pair of prescription glasses that darken would be for me!

I would like a pair of self-darkening contacts, yes I would. Surely we have the technology? It would sure look weird to see someone with them on, though. Kinda freaky.

I'm long-sighted and I'm very easily irritated by light, I think I have "very light" Glaucoma in my left eye, I was at least diagnosed with something at age 9, so my left eye is very light sensitive. I usually wear sunglasses from march to october, even if it's overcast because the sharp light makes my left eye close itself.

thanks guys, that's really helpful. I'm gong to see if my optician has something called Corning's glare cutter--looks good and does not appear to significantly alter the landscape.

I wear a hat to block some of the light. I do wear glasses to see better if i got sunglass they would have to the 140 degree type lenses that warp around to both sides.

I've always been the opposite, I can't stand sunglasses. Anything tinted makes me feel weird, like I'm missing the full picture of the world around me.

I have tinted glasses and they work pretty well. I don't know what color they are or anything. But, I would highly recommend them to anybody who is thinking about getting some. Now about tinted contacts, i don't know if i would want any of those. Have any of you thought that if contacts were tinted, that your eyes would become dark. I just think that would really look odd and scary-looking. Don't think I would to see someone'seyes go really dark because of tinted contacts.

yes i have very light sentive eyes and i got Oakleys.
i got them for two reasone
1. work I am a lifegurad. (great tax write off)
2. i wanted the best.
i found that if you have a strap you are less likely to loose them.

I used to ware glasses and tinted sunglasses. I worried about using tinted glasses because even Aspies are more sensitive to light, the reason for this could be down to way their brains are wired not down to the eye hardware. I am aware what could happen if you spend time reading in the dark, you will end up losing your eyesight. Thing is I don’t know if this is true if the brain makes what the eyes see more sensitive.

To sum it up, is it ok for an Aspie to wear tinted glasses where NT would end up losing is eyesight while doing things like reading etc.

I wear tinted glasses with a blue tint. At least for my glasses, the tint has worn off over time and has gotten lighter, so it's okay if they seem dark at first. I also cannot stand wearing "traditional" sunglasses, despite the fact that not wearing them isn't great for my eyes. It bothers me to be able to see the light out of my peripheral vision.

I have UV blocking sunglasses that I wear outside and when I drive.

I can drive without feeling like my eyes are being fried.
