So my psychologists has said that I have Asperger's but to get insurance coverage and such I have to go through the testing. Who can test me for Asperger's (psychiatrist, psychologist, etc) and what is the testing like? Thanks!

You need to have a good knowledge of your childhood experiences or let the psychiatrist talk to one of your parents or somebody who knew you when you were growing up.

To get a legal diagnosis (necessary for things like healthcare and disability accommodations), you'll have to go to a testing center. I went to the Regent's Center at Georgia State, but I don't know where else another one is. Ask your psychiatrist where to go; I think he would know.

What insurance coverage are you looking for? There's no cure, no medication for AS. The only thing Mental Health Professionals could do for you is put you in therapy, which won't fix anything, or medicate you for anxiety and depression which will do nothing to dispel your Autistic handicaps.

From what I've seen posted here, some Insurance companies don't even have a provision for covering anything to do with Autism.

A psychologist can give you a formal DX, but make sure you go to someone with experience in evaluating AS in adults. Some professionals seem to be all over the map when it comes to assessing the specifics of a person's neurological disability.

Mostly I still need therapy for depression and anxiety. I am hoping to try to work on social skills to and just be able to get some more resources.

My current psychologist has said I am an Aspie so maybe I should just leave it at that and use counseling for depression and anxiety.

There is a therapeutic riding center near me too and they work with Asperger's. I would LOVE to be able to do that but I am thinking I would need to be tested and such. Still, a psychologist who has known me for three years just said I have Asperger's. Is that enough of a diagnosis?

My therapist won't "officially" diagnose AS herself. The only reason I might try to pursue profession diagnosis would be to get some occupational therapy to help deal with some sensory stuff. (I haven't decided yet.)
