SO I am extremely impatient, if I want something, I want it NOW! For example, if I order something from the internet, I become really agitated, while waiting for it to be delivered. In order to help me cope with the waiting, I become obsessed with the item and will read everything there is to know about it as it helps to temporarily "saitisfy" my craving for it.

If my PC breaks down I'll stay up all night trying to fix it because I become obsessed... (Not sure if this is really impatience, but it has the same obsessive feel)

My grandfather recently passed away and he left me his car. However, I can't drive it until I get it insured, and I can't insure it because I can't yet afford it. I should be able to afford it in a few weeks but the wait is driving me absolutely insane! The car is just sitting there taunting me and not being driven :( I have the usual obsession, and have been reading everything there is to know about the car online, in the manual, etc. The thing is I can also feel myself becoming quite moody and agitated with the whole thing, to the point where I have even asked my parents to lend me the money to end my suffering :( ...they said no... Although, I think this is particularly bad because I think I'm obsessing over the car because it helps take my mind of the grandfather, who's no longer here :(

Anyway, is this a "human thing" or an "Asperger thing"? Does anyone else ever get this impatient?

i am very impatient (and impulsive) too. like you, if i want something, i want and need it NOW. i won't say i am spoit or high maintenance, but i just can't help it. it's like an urge that i cannot fight back. my doc said it's more due to my adhd and i am better when on ritalin (i know in america, one cannot really be diagnosed with both asperger and adhd, but i am in the uk!). many symptoms are the same between AS and ADHD, and impatience seems to be under both disorders. if you're really bothered by it all, maybe go assess for adhd, whilst Asperger is rarely treated, adhd is very treatable.

Oh yea, nothing like weeks of research and reading. I usually do it before I make the purchase though as I have found that will sometimes curb my "need" to buy something or I find a better alternative.

2 years ago it was a motorcycle or moped, I read and researched and read some more. I ended up with two really nice bicycles instead that I've put thousands of miles on. I found the original choice carried to much hidden expense and the fatality rate was too high for my liking. And it cost me a lot less.

I do good with patience. I can wait till things comes after I order it.

I hear it's an aspie thing to get impatient but there are plenty of NTs out there who get impatient too. I sometimes feel I am more patient than a normal person. I mean I see speeders on the road and I am being patient by going to speed limit but how do I know they don't have some mental disorder? They could be in a emergency situation or maybe they have AS too and they are rushing home to catch their TV show.

I don't know if it's impatient or not procrastinating. However, I do want things done NOW. Especially as I can't see what's so difficult about going to the Barnes and Nobles, picking up a book, or ordering it, pay the money and go. Well, for me that's kind of difficult, as I love the Barnes and Nobles, and would spend all day there, and buy everything if I could. However, see here, my mom said she was going to print some pictures. Okay, every time, I'm like, 'so are we going to go the Walgreens?', she's always be, 'Tommorow', or 'Next week'. Until finally that turned into two months!

That, in part, is why I like the internet. You just add to your cart, pay, choose the shipping, and done! It'll be here in a couple of weeks. My parents, they can take months. Same with everything else. They take forever.

I've always been extremly impatient. But the older I get, less impatient I am :) And am working on it. I try to focus on other things so I am not obsessed with something am waiting for.

I never considered impatience and obsession to be related, but it certainly seems that way. Huh. I'm usually pretty patient but if I'm sucked in by desire for some object I'll research it to no end like FredOak. Often that will help it wear off since I'll get tired of it.

Regarding getting insurance, if you're in the US, try getting an online quote from Geico (it's very easy and you don't have to deal with anyone). They really do have very good rates. I only have to pay $80 every 6 months, but I have a clean record and carry the minimum since I don't drive much. You might even be able to work out monthly payments with the carrier.

I can get impatient, when I'm waiting to get on the Internet, and all the computers in the communications room at my clubhouse, are all taken.
