Hiya

I would be grateful for anyone's advice here. I finished uni this summer and since then and transitioning into the adult world I have found that I have become more stressed and more confused and am having meltdowns on a daily basis, whereas before I had them about every two years. My degree was in history though, so I was able to be a hermit for three years.

I am constantly tired and am sleeping most of the day so I have the nights which are quiet to myself. My special interests have got more obsessive and I am stimming loads more, even in public which I stopped years ago. I am also getting nosebleeds

I am not diagnosed as of yet. My teachers tried to push me getting a diagnosis when I was in school but my dad didn't want me to in case it affected my future, jobs etc. I am thinking of getting diagnosed now though as this is getting too much to take.

I think that you should do what's right for you, not what's right for your dad.

Get diagnosed privately. That way you can control who finds out. When I got diagnosed in a hospital, it was free. So if it interests you, you could call the Psychiatry Dept. of a mental hospital or a children's hospital. Ask to speak to someone about making an appointment for Asperger's diagnosis. It won't be soon but you can always cancel if you find a better way.

That sounds a good idea, although the cost is immense, £295 was the one I looked at and the only one I could find. After being a student, my funds are screwed. I think it may be the way to go though. Thanks.

This forum is one thing that puts my mind at rest and actually seems to calm my meltdowns!

Well, that freaked me out. I've had issues with off-set circadian rhythm for years now, and I've been having lots of nasal issues recently, including nosebleeds. I wonder if there's a connection my doctors haven't thought of yet...

The transition from student life to adult life is pretty stressing for anyone ASD or not, sounds like your symptoms could easily be stress/anxiety related, I'd suggest seeing a General Practitioner and and getting an annual physical to making sure your blood pressure hasn't gotten too high or some simple physical thing wrong for starters. He might even get you on a low dose antidepressant with only a DX of general anxiety which could help immensely (it sure did for me). Getting an ASD DX might not be as big a deal as you think, the Brit's seem to cherish their eccentric odd-balls a lot more than we bloody colonials do but your mileage may vary.

wow... that is EXACTLY what is going on with me. I graduate in a few weeks. I had a lot of trouble when I was a kid with the sensory stuff and went through occupational therapy and all but the Asperger's was never diagnosed. As I see graduation coming up in a few weeks things have gotten crazier, more stressed out, more overstimulating, etc. I went back just in the past few weeks and confirmed the asperger's diagnosis. I totally understand where you are coming from though. For me getting the diagnosis has been helpful. I hope you are able to find out what will help you best. Take care and try to do some relaxing things

re nose bleeds: I use Nasacort for post-nasal drip. I have to go off it from time to time because it thins the skin and then I get nosebleeds. If you have a prescription nasal spray - or any nasal spray that you use every day, maybe you could google it and check out the side effects. Either way, you should talk it over with a doctor.

You must be very tired of hearing us tell you to see a doctor! :) That does seem to be the way to get it all sorted out.

300! I paid (or rather a relative did) 30 000 SEK, which is about 2500 in pounds.

That was private practice though. If I'd waited a couple of years in the official system I could have gotten it for free...
